I started a thread about a week ago about my engine blowing up in my '62. Well, I finally got the chance to pull the motor and take a look-see. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this doesn't look good to me.

P***enger side of the oil pan...

Mmmmmm..... Chevy 305: Stays crunchy, even in milk!

A view from inside the pan...

Looking up at the crank. Seems to be something missing....

Fortunately, a guy I know has a girlfriend that wants a full back tattoo, so I was able to trade for a new (rebuilt) engine. He's a Master Mechanic at a hi-performance shop here in town and built me a .040 over 350, four bolt main, Corvette cam and all the t*******s. I'll post pics when I get that dropped in.

    Fun stuff! :D

I had one just like that when I was a kid, except mine was blue. And the hole was in the other side. and the cam was broken into 4 pieces.

    Just like it though.

I've yet to do that to a car... but I did it to three mini bikes!

Sounds like the new motor will be a huge improvement.

My mom always told me not to throw things. Obviously your motor never got the same advice...:)

DAMN! You win! haha. Funny thing is, mine still ran, too. I started it up and drove it onto the roll back truck to get it home. When I got home, I started it again, just to show a buddy the cool noise it was making:D

Here's the new mill, waiting for a friend to show up and help me monkey it into place.....

    that engine looks pretty nice,,,,
i had a 68 camaro as my first car,,,it had a six cyl,,,
i tried talking my dad into letting me put in a 327,,but he said "nothin wrong with that engine"....i thought to myself,,,"oh yeah,,,i'll show him how good it is",,hahaha...
i TRIED like hell to blow that damn engine up,,,,downshifted into 1st at 50 mph,,,,the damn thing would NOT blow up,,,,,never did get my 327......goes to show,,when you WANT to blow one up,,,,,damn near impossible,,,

Those SBC 305 engines aren't good for more than about 1,800 RPMs before they self-destruct!

My first car was my first blown engine, too! A '52 Plymouth. Ran great on five cylinders. Number Six was at the bottom of the pan - rod, piston and all!

Nahhh that aint too bad..Ive fixed worse **** than that..
Realy if the engine isnt too bad and it just had this issue,,it can be fixed. even if the crank got hurt..they got new or re-man ones.
if the blck didnt get hurt too bad or at all..your golden. re-build it at your lesure when you got the time and money

oh...305? sorry didnt see that...scratch all that i said above..and just go get a good 350 or 327 and be done with it...do you need a boat anchor?..you got one now

That's the plan. I'm going to tear into it when I get the chance and see what happened to the block. I'm hoping it'll be fine. If so, I'll slap a crank kit and new rod/piston and flip it to someone for a beater.

thats a good plan..if you can do it with out hurting your bottom line..and get your money back out of it..thats a good plan..i was just razing ya about the boat anchor..they can be good motors..as long as you didnt hurt the block or bend or break something that cant be straightend out..it should re-build ok

See that milky looking goo in the pan? That's a mixture of oil and water. Which in turn means the carnage reached into a water jacket at some point. Which in turn means you have a boat anchor. Any time you fracture a water jacket in the crankcase it's virtually impossible to fix and when it can be fixed its real EXPENSIVE. Sorry, but you have a really heavy wall hanger (provided you have a really sturdy wall).

the best part about these threads is all the wise guys pop out of the woodworks. speaking of wood, if you add some sawdust to your oil, it should do the trick.
