I may now become a thief, as I no longer have fingerprints !. Two days of block sanding primer on the '36 has left my fingertips raw. I used to do this all the time, I must have had callus' or something, or my skin is getting fragile in my old age. I'm so far behind where I thought I'd be, I keep moving finish dates further and further back, I guess it's a good thing there's no deadline. I'm taking a little break and relaxing, when I finish the malt beverage I'm sipping it's back out to the shop to hang up the little parts, mask off the body again and get it all ready to put the final coats of primer on. Then, block it out again, and hopefully next week I can get color on it. That should be much quicker than this mornings task, which was getting all the pits and sanding scratches revealed by the guide coat filled with spot/glazing putty. I also picked up a gallon of clear and hardener at the paint store, and of course forgot to get fine line tape to mask the beltline stripe off with before the final color goes on. Oh well, I probably forgot something else too, so another trip into town will (hopefully) get everything I need.
I remember the first time I did that- thought I'd sanded through the primer until the paper started dripping... Best of luck and keep the digits taped!
sounds like lots of fun, where do we send our need list to for stolen merchandise? just kidding, so where are all the pics at? We like to see works in progress u know Mine will be up and coming this summer. finally got the jeeps outta the way, and its on to the A now yipppeeee for me.. Will
Huh, I thought I attatched photos Let's try that again... I'm really appreciating the hard work that goes into building what LOOKS like a simple car. Everything on this is exposed, has to be finished, and even tho I'm not finishing things to show car standards (by a LOOOOONG way!), it's much more time consuming making all this stuff look half way decent. Even the '51 wagon, which was a basket case, wasn't as frustrating to build, those big smooth panels are very easy to finish compared to all these little pieces. Oh, the pinstripe is now going to be Fruehauf cream left over from the Impala, the color of the top on that. I have plenty left to do it, and since the uphostery is now distressed leather, it'll contrast nicely with that and the olive green body color. I'll just shoot that on the belt line, let it tack up, mask off the pinstripe, paint the green, pull the tape and clear the whole she-bang. At least, that's the plan.
Looks good! Another thing you can try, if your hands sweat a lot like mine, is the cloth-style Band-Aids over your finger tips, glue side to your nail, they seem to last longer than tape for me.
Thats the way to go. It makes you feel more important too, like a doctor, ya thats how I feel... doing surgery. Two days of blocking, thats it?? I think you still have a few more to go beofore its time to start complaining, haha! Lookin good.
Reminds me of The lady at the DMV a few years back that threw a damn fit when she kept trying to fingerprint me and couldn't get a solid print off my hands. She finally got a manager and I showed him my hands and told him what I did for a living, the manager said take the best print you can get and go with it. This was when I worked at a body shop of course. Body guys are the perfect criminals.
