I haven't given it much thought yet, but here's what I am thinking so far:

    1. Late Spring/Early Summer... Avoiding the heat next time - that's for sure!

    2. I really liked MoKan and think I'd like to keep it there...

    3. I don't think I (ooops, I mean my wife) could handle more than a one day event. That said, might plan an activity for the evening or....

I need to start fielding suggestions... What do you guys want? What could improve the drags? etc...

  8. MOKAN was a kick ass location... and I'd hate that to change... but do you think we'd attract more Westerners if the event were closer to the West? Or do we need to just promote it a little better, and encourage more people from out West to attend?

We also need to think about limiting the event to just HAMB members and their friends... (the red coupe and the maroon Stude were cool, but it would have been neat(er) to see one of our guys take home the trophies they won...) I don't want to sound elitist, but we need to think about the growth of this event... do we want it small and intimate? Do we want it to grow into something as big as other events? Deciding now will help with growing pains later... How "pure" do you want it? I talked with a guy who has a K-88 rail that is restored to late 50's specs yesterday at Billetproof... his eyes perked up when I said there was an event held back east where he could run his car... MOKAN was pretty relaxed with its tech... could this be an event where the "three pointers" and Cacklefest cars could run?

Remember, these are just ideas thrown out to kinda feel out what others are thinking...

As far as me going next year, I'll have to wait and see how my finances go... but if I do go, I'll drive the Roach Rod out... it gets better mileage than a dually towing an altered anyway. [IMG]

As far as time of the year goes... late spring would be good... or early summer... timing for the last show was good with Bonneville... but I don't think it was that critical to the majority being there...
    Sam.

  9. I think MOKAN was a great site. It's laid back enough to have an easy tech session, if you know what I mean. A track that is more commercial might have a problem with some of the stuff that ran. I know the "T" roadster I had there wouldn't have been able to run anywhere else. It should be tailored towards HAMB members, and friends. But how do you define "friends"? One day is good, but the midwest weather could ruin it, it's raining here in Misery as I type this. Yesterday the weather was great! I'm still smiling thinking about the last HAMB drags, thinking about what to bring to the next one. I can't wait! [IMG] Dean

I suggest deleting all of the jibberish from last years "Hamb Drags" post and start a new post.
Also have a Hamb Drags suggestion forum within that thread.
That way you won't have 359 posts called "Ryan.....what about blah blah blah............

I think there should be a year cutoff personally.
1965 would cover most cars and maybe have an occassional exception to the rule if deemed necessary by the promoter.
I mean who would turn away a 1968 Mustang flip top funny car?

I liked the announcer and thought it was pretty entertaining listening to him. If everyone would have a card that told the history of the car, motor, etc. that was a mandatory item. Then all of the cards could be turned in to the tower after registration, would make it more interesting. How's that? Next time I won't hold back.... [IMG]

  11. Early summer works for me! So far I like the ideas. We dont have to change a lot to improve on this years race. As for Non-Hambers running, several of those illegals are now registered on the HAMB. I dont think some of them would have found there way here otherwise.

As for food, I have something new up my sleeve! [IMG]

You might even throw up a volunteer board early. That way people that can make it, might be able to plan ahead for vacation etc. Also, people that wanna contribute their talents, i.e. artwork, timing tags etc. but can't make the drags could also be a part.

Ooh one other thing....I would have bought a shirt but they ran out of big guy sizes early. Print more shirts? Maybe for pre-registry you can help order the right amount.

I'm not sure much better the HAMB drags could be over this year's. Some lead time to make plans with work and family scheduling is needed.
I was misinformed on the hotel of choice and stayed 30 miles from everybody else in a different town. I'd like to see all of us stick together next time.
And why were the locals in the red Stude and the red tupperware 34, 3 window allowed to compete? I thought the track was rented by us, for us? If we're gonna have the HAMB DRAGS, Id' like to see it be for us only. We seemed to have enough cars to keep the strip occupied all day. It didn't appear we needed any help from the locals.
All small concerns but fine-tuning some of these things may make the next HAMB drags even better.
And Dean.....why not run the little red Rambler American with a new powerplant? It's a natural!

I didn't go cause I'm lame, but I like the card idea(with year motor a lil' history).

  15. Kick the locals out seems to be a nice way to keep it a small event....just but all non HAMB'ers in a class of their own called I/A (Illegal Aliens). I don't expect to have rod done after recent job loss but might wander there with a couple of buds that I turned on to the HAMB (lurkers for now) I think I will be competeing in the specialized A/S class. I didn't go because money was tighter than Dick's hatband..however, I know I can get at least five cars/HAMBers out next year as long as it isn't moved farther away and money works out right.

I'm there next year no matter when and where it's going to be held. I really liked the location and the owner can't be beat. The event is well worth the 14 hour drive for me. Instead of going to a two day event, maybe make the one day alittle longer. Maybe racing till 6 or 7 and chow down after that. Just some thoughts, I'm sure I'll have more. [IMG]

I think....throwing a carshow/dragmeet/assembly of any kind, in someone's back yard and excluding them is wrong.
As long as their vehicle meets the criteria for a HAMB event they should be welcomed.

The reception I recieved from the local MO folks, at the gas station, mini-mart and fast food restaurants and just about any where I stopped was, friendly and hospitable.

Well, maybe we all need to step up to the plate and take home those trophies next Meet.......I know I plan to be more competitive next year.

The location of MOKAN seemed to cater to all HAMB members from all parts of the US. Nothing says you CA boys can't organize a local event, example....Kontinentals and their Day of the Drags event.

I think it would be cool to have more events like the HAMB drags in different parts of the country. Makes for better justification on the money and time I'll be spending on the HAG........

  20. Radshit is right, those locals were really cool. Pissed cause they won, do something about it.

As for the race, we had fun camping at the track the night before. Had a little campfire, lots of merriment.

The tech sheet idea is cool.

I mentioned a while back my dads suggestion of a flagman instead of the tree. Could make for a fun time and BTW, he volunteered.

Night-time racing is the shit! How well lit is the track. I would love to see a couple of FED's battling it out down the track, fire shooting out of the pipes and the shutdown backfire. Howa bout a stripper that swings around the tree. Maybe we just need a lot of strippers. I've got it "Strippers, Stripers and Stryper":D

Locals?? Well I gotta say I talked to the guy with the lark a coupla times, The last time he wouldnt let me leave till he told me how he gives all his trophys to the grand kids. And this one had to be the coolest one he ever got and he was keeping it! The locals were definatly high buck FAST. I think it is good P R to include the ones that fit the criteria to compete. I dont think we are a total out law or one pers yet. Just my two cents. Cal

I agree with Ryan, it should stay in Missouri. I mean shit, man how much more "Central" can you get?

You California guys have enough cool shit happenin as it is, leave some of it for us Mid-US boys. I didn't get to come this Year but i'll damn sure be there at the next one.

As for the Cut-off, I think '65 should be it. Even if I had been able to come this year, I wasn't going to bring my truck because the Official HAMB Drags page said "manufactured before '65", or something like that.

I guess I could have argued the point since my '65 F100 was actually built in late '64...

    HHHMMMM,

The "locals" were invited by the promoter as they are friends of his.

I had no problem with them running and I agree with RADSHIT that not allowing them at a race in there yard would not be very HAMB-like.

Truth be told, Monkey, MAMA and ME were lost and followed the "tupperware' car in.

He was a super nice guy.

    TECH? WHY?

I have to get naked and then some to count the cars that ran and might not have if tech was... well, even existant. I couldn't find it and both my cars would not have passed.

    MOKAN? OH HELL YEAH!!!

It is perfect for the event.

I would like to say the strip in Tulsa is perfect [IMG]

It's nicer but doesn't have the feel that MOKAN has.

As far as closer to the west coast is concerned, why not closer to the East coast then?

There are precious few advantages to living in middle America.

Deal with it. We do. [IMG]</font>

Why not ferhter south? Or north? that would be cool, still half way between the coasts but still in different parts of the US. From what I hear Mokan was cool, but why not have it in different places.

There's no reason to move the Drags that I can see. There are plenty of them for staying at MOKAN. The folks there seem to love the HAMB crew that attended the drags. Also they were more than helpful with the Pig. They could have said no way you'll have to use our consessions. They were willing to let us dig a big ass hole on their property to roast that porker. I haven't heard a negative comment about the locals or the local PD either. Besides The HAMB is established there. Why go through with hunting down another track. We owe MOKAN a little loyalty if you ask me. They've earned it.

On another subject I think that we ought to step up and get to work on supercool trophys for the next Drags [IMG]

I personally had a great time at the drags. The Holiday Inn was cool about us partying in the parking lot...the people at Mokan went out of their way to make us feel welcome and I never saw or heard of anyone with an attitude. Just a group of laid back...happy to be there folks. Maybe have it a little earlier to beat the heat and a two day event would be twice as much fun. We need to understand the extra time and people it would take to make it a two day event. Ryan and the crew that helped out with this years drags did a wonderful job but with a two day event they will need help. A lot of help. Let me be one of the first to volunteer to help out in any way I can. Just let me know in time to make arrangements for the time off. My opinion is keep the Registration hotel the same...keep it at Mokan but make it a two day event. Anyone wanna help out???
