Yeah, I know everybody runs Sombreros but I can't say I go crazy over many wheel covers. Sombreros happen to be one that I do in fact love and I also like the stock '52 Merc ones as well as the Lincoln premiers. I don't have a problem running a really popular cover although I'll have to make that decision when I actually see the car with them on for the first time.

    Thanks fellas!!

I kinda like the grille the way it is. If anything, I would add some of the 1/4 teeth to the hood scoop opening. Tucked inside and just barely visible.

So I PM'd Axle to see if he can shed any light on who built this car originally. I'll let you guys know what he says when I hear from him. I don't think the car was built too long ago but I would like to know who was responsible for it originally. Hell it could have been Axle for all I know!!!

  5. I always wanted to do a 52 or 53 Merc with 55 Pontiac split front and rear bumpers with 56 Star Chief side trim...awesome car, best of luck!

I searched and searched for old examples of these cars being built back in the day. What I found is that out of the 5 or so that I found 3 of them ran the Poncho Split Bumper treatment. Definitely a cool option I say go for it!!!!

  7. Jeffrey,

Let me be the 300th person to tell you that thing is BAD ASS!!!!

It's proof-positive that you dont have to drive a turd to be kid-friendly.

I was dissappointed last fall when I had to sell my '34 Hudson and '34 Ford truck because my wife said I had to get a car with a back seat. Now I'm about a week out from painting my '54 Victoria mild custom and am getting stoked to get it on the road.

    Congrats on a cool car.

Talked to Axle and he said that a friend from Long Beach named Sheldon originally built the car. When Axle got it he finished the interior and painted before sending it on down the line. I wonder if Sheldon is a HAMB member? Anyways, thanks to all had a part in the construction. I am stoked!

Nice car! What kind of taillights do you have/plan? '56 Packard or '55 Plymouth would be nice...and yeah, I like the spear...'54 Merc is a nice spear to add...good idea!

I agree with Tom! I'm a fan of the Goodyears in the end though. BTW, not to hijack this thread, but why does Jimmy Vaughn's car have two different styles of headlights in the pics here? It looks SO much better with sombreros and bigger whites...not diggin the Lancers.

Tail lights are already done. I think they are pretty cool as the driving lamps are lit from the bottom so it gives a pretty cool touch and the light up bright when the brakes are engaged. '58 Corvette turned around....

In my opinion the passenger side needs a little work because I don't think it's dead nut on but that's all in due time right?

Thought I would get it back on the road this weekend but I think that might have to wait. Still need the Clutch pedal Assembly and a passenger side hood hinge. I have a line on them but the guy wants me to but the whole car (4dr) for $300.

  14. Those tail lights look great.

Last Saturday I went and found the Clutch Linkage and hood hinges that I needed. So Saturday my good friend Jeremy and I are heading to the shop, locking ourselves in, and not coming out until we are driving this thing!!!

While I was at the gentleman's house who had a '54 Merc (where I'm getting the linkage from) I noticed the '56 Ford that he had sitting in the weeds. Jeremy and I started wondering how that front end would look grafted onto the front my Merc??? Any thoughts????

Anyways, my checklist for the weekend is the following.....

    -Rotella Oil 5 quarts
-Lucas Zinc TB Break in Oil Additive
-'54 Merc Clutch Linkage & Pedal
    -Hood Hinge
-Black paint for ugly aluminum radiator

I think we should be able to knock everything out that day and get this car driving by dinner time Saturday night! I'll keep you guys updated.

  17. Sounds great- you should give it a good run and bring it down to Brad54's swap in April!!!

Swap in April huh???? Maybe if I'm not completely tapped out after Auto Fair I will!!!! Are you coming to Auto Fair by the way??? I know Tudor is coming and we might be having a party at our shop so you should too!

Now that I am looking at the '56 Ford front end and the '52 Merc side by side, I don't think it's going to be as easy or as good looking at I originally thought. Hmmm, might have to do something else or nothing at all. I might bring my '54 Chevy grille, Splash pan teeth over to the shop and see what it looks like.

  19. Geez....just caught up with the thread there man. Great lookin' ride! Love the ol' Mercs, can't go wrong. Sounds like solid plans for it. Hopefully get to lay eyes on it while I'm up at the swap. Keepin' the family in the picture, good for you dude!

  20. Okay, DUMB question... when is the Auto Fair?

April 8-11th (Thursday-Sunday). If you've never been by all means come witness the spectacle. We are having a shop party since we are not going to Austin For the Lone Star Roundup this year. Should be cool and we might have a band playing and some food. Spend the day searching for parts and night hanging with us!!!!

Thanks guys! I can't wait to drive this thing and the fact that I'm going to probably suffer some trauma to my head from getting in and out of this thing seems so miniscule to me ahahaha!!! Can't wait to cruise the back roads of Carolina perhaps this weekend!

A Ford grille into a Mercury is going backwards and you should know better than that. :D

Yeah your right.....Lincoln, thats what I need!!! Hahahaha!!! Yeah I am just really puzzled with the front end. At time I like it because it's simple and at other times when I hit the right angle I'm like Damn, that needs some work. not that I am really going to hit it hard now but a guy can dream can't he???

I think the '54 Chevy stuff might work though. I was going to do a '54 Poncho center with '54 Chevy grille ends on my '54 Chevy eventually but now that it's been pushed so far back I can't even see doing it anytime soon I might go that option now with this car. I might just save that '54 for my kid one day because I don't see myself building custom ever.....ever!!!

Merc With Poncho Center???? I think I might be leaning towards a regular '54 Chevy grille with teeth. Who knows!

Settle yourself Django, I'm new to this custom shit!!! Hahahaha!!! I don't have the rulebook just yet but since it's '54 Chevy on a '52 Merc I thought that would be allowed......wait aren't you a designer??? You shouldn't follow those rules my friend. Hahahaha!!! Don't worry I'll make it look alright even if it calls for nothing at all at the end of the day.
