got a warning for the following from a wisconsin state trooper:

    1. Sell/Buy automobile without safety belts # 347.48(1)(b)
    2. Fail/Equip with stop lamps TR 305.15(1)
    3. Fail/Properly maintain brakes TR305.17(1)
    4. Fail/Equip required bumper TR305.18(1)(a)
    5. Fail/Maintain Door/Hood trunk lid TR305.19(1)
    6. Fail/Maintain exhaust system TR305.20(1)
    7. Fail/Equip vehicle fenders TR305.22(1)
    8. Fuel Tank Not Meet Industry Standards TR305.24(5)

My car is registered as a 1930 model a tudor, street modified wisconsin hobbyist. I can understand the exhaust, no complaints about that. But the Trooper is wrong about the taillight, fenders, bumpers, doors, and fuel tank. I'm not the first person this Trooper has tried to screw on this stuff, he tried getting MP33 on all of this stuff last year. MP33 contacted the troopers boss and got his warning overtunred.

This trooper knows he's wrong, how the hell can he justify giving me a warning for equipment he knows I don't need?????

still, I don't "hot rod" around, or do a bunch of burnouts or "street race"........and the more people i talk to, the more i find out that he does this on a regular basis. In my line of work, if I keep screwing up, waisting other peoples money, and not properly doing my job, not only would I be fired, but I would get a ton of fines. What's the punishment for this asshole?

I moved up to cheeseland from Texas when i was in 5th grade. My family took a trip out west the summer before 6th grade. As we were crossing the Wisconsin / Minnesota border heading back home we and about 12 other cars all traveling 65mph in a 55 got flagged over en mass for speeding. Apparently there was an airplane tracking all of us.
Could it be the same asshole? :D

that sucks....you just have to fight it.

  6. Learn your states vehicle code better than the cops.................you may not win the argument on the side of the road but you will ruin his day/week/month!

  7. He was doing his job.

If yer gonna rod, know the law.

The only good thing where we live, is the old car laws have been pruged, so the law dosent enforce them any more.

But, if your acting a fool, they can.

Here the car has to have all its safety stuff it came with. Which would be ONE tail light for a Model A.

Post a pic of your car

and remember to the man, old cars are UNSAFE, eye sores. You will be treated as such.

I don't know. Evidently this guy has been routinely piliging hot rodders in the Taylor County area for over 20 years. It's like some hot rodder ran his dog over and he's on a mission for retrobution to all hot rodders............

He never gave me a reason why he stopped me.
I do know the law. He doesn't. He's not doing his job. He's waisting time and money. Go after drunk drivers, not specialty auto's.

Did I mention he made me sit in the rain for 10 minutes, wouldn't let me get out of my car until a bystander started bitching at him for being a dick head? Then he tells me that I can sit in the squad with him, where I see him looking up all the violations in an out of date Wisconsin transportation law book. He was trying to put the violation codes into the computer, and the computer wouldn't take them, it just kept saying "error: codes out of date".

Although it's prolly a good thing it started raining, so he wouldn't get out of the squad and find more "violations".

I'm surprised he didn't give me a ticket for having 2 white walls and 2 black walls.........

I come from a small town. My first car was a 60 chevy.
When i was a kid i used to get stoped at least 4 or 5 times a week. Sometimes it was for speeding, because my tags were out or whatever, but at least 9 times out of 10 it was for driving an old car.

Either the cop was "cool" and just wanted to look at my car or he was a dick just looking for a reason to give me a ticket. They ould look and look but usually they would have to let me go because i knew the law.

If it wasn't original equipment I didn't have to have it. They tried to give me tickets for no seatbelt, or because i wasn't running up to date equipment or whatever. Cops are just cops. I respect them but sometime you just get a dick.

I did get arrested once. but he let me go. I got stoped because the cop wanted to "look" at my car because he thought it was cool. I was late for work and was pissed when I found out why he was stopping me. When I was puling away I spun the tires on accident and threw gravel on his car and on him. He let me go after a stern warnig and a search of my car.

Yeah, right! Hes a government employee. There are no consequences for a government employee. If there were, those idiots at DMV, IRS, Postal Service, etc....would be fired.
Now that thats off my chest, how about gathering statements from the people you say he has screwed, statements from MP33 (whatever that is?), go to court and get the cite dismissed. Then walk over to small claims and sue the trooper for wasting your time. In Calif, you can sue (in small claims) for $5000.
There was a guy in Redondo Beach that got a speeding cite. He went to court to fight the cite. The officer failed to show and the case was dismissed. The guy then went to small claims and sued the officer for a lost days wages. The guy won.

I wish he would have givin me fines instead of the warnings, because then I could take him to court. But this guy knows he's wrong about the law, that's why he gave me warnings.

The crappy thing is, I can't drive the car until the situation is resolved. So I'm being punished for not doing anything wrong, yet he has no strings attached.

    Anybody know a SEMA lawyer???

Now on the other side of the coin, I hear all the time about how some officer was a d**k. 9 times out of 10, the officer had a valid reason for a stop. A guy I know complained that he got a ticket for tinted windows (in Calif, it's now a fine) and the cop was just being a p***k. I asked the guy if he knew it was illegal to tint his windows. He said, "yeah, but..." I told him he deserved it because he knew it was illegal but did it anyway. I asked him what make him sooooo special that he could have tinted windows but nobody else can. He couldn't answer that. All I'm saying is most cops are good people like you and me and they are just doing their job....

I agree, most local cops don't even look twice at my car, they know I'm just a guy that builds cars, doesn't cause trouble or sell drugs, and they leave me alone. This guy has it in for hot rods.

No tinted windows in California at all or is there a limit to how dark they can be?

    Call his supervisor.
Get the super to overturn the warnings, explaining that Hobbyist plates mean you passed inspection for that particular vehicle / style / year. (future: do you carry the inspection sheet?)
Let him know that you are an upstanding member of the community and know this officer has a long record of this type of uneducated harrassment.
Thank super for tearing up ticket.
Let him know that next time a written complaint wil be lodged against ths officer (make sure tix are cleared up by now!!) and you will attempt to recover lost time.

I had just bought a lowered 64 Bel air. I was leaving my house and I got stopped by a cop at around 9 at night. I had cherry bombs and the exhaust was loud. As he walked up to my window he looks and sees me and gets a really surprised look. He says "You're not the color I was expectin" (I'm white) He then tells me that my exhaust was too loud and he couldnt pull up my registration. Antique plates don't always come up in Illinois. So he says he's within his power to impound my car. I say I sure hope you dont have to do that officer. He says to me "Don't let me ever see this car in MY town again." My parents live there, fuck him. So I say sure thing officer and go home. Next night i'm in my same car in town. Luckily though I didnt see him. :)

  22. On the bright side, maybe he'll retire at 41 or 45 and that will be the end of the BS.

The reason this guy doesn't get fired is because most people who do complain get the warnings overturned and that's it. Since he's never done something stupid enough to cause a death or injury to an innocent person, they keep him. There is a local cop who's arrested people when off duty, fired shots at crooks who were holding hostages, and done a bunch of other stupid things, and he never did get canned. Even though in at least one of those instances they had the victim sign a release promising not to sue them over it.

  23. Warnings must be different in Wisconsin. In Texas you don't have to do anything with a warning. If I were you I would see if I could visit with his supervisor and get a clairification on the laws and maybe something written down for future reference if Barney stops you again.

There are hot rods in Taylor county? The only old cars I ever saw there were rusting away in pastures. Oh, and a reasonably rust-free shoebox with Nebraska plates at the corner of County M and 73 in Hannibal.

  25. I can't make the pic you posted big enough to see what your car looks like. But if it's a rat rod, maybe the cop's a real traditionalist and thinks that rusty cars festooned with skulls and silly crap should be parked until they are not offensive to the discerning eye.

I don't consider my car a "rat", just not completed yet, which it will be. The thought that he's a purest did cross my mind, but some other people in town told me he just doesn't like modified cars or motorcycles at all, gold chainers or traditional.

Im' reading all of this and all I cna hope is that the whole karma thing that I love so much might actually fall squarely on this bastard cop's nuts. Maybe he'll catch a nasty VD or get hit by a bus, loaded down with people headed to their first Weight Watchers meeting. We can hope, right?

Someone mentioned that maybe a hot rodder ran over his dog. Maybe a hot rodder stole his girlfriend in high school. She undoubtedly liked that guy's hot rod more than this cop's Pacer.

Lets say for example, it was a riceburner that got pulled over. And got several fines. We all would be saying, the dumb fucker deserved it. They make too much noise, are an eye sore, trouble makers.

Probably the way the cop felt about the hot rod in question.
