Unless I'm mistaken, a warning doesn't go on your record and doesn't amount to anything more than letting you know they feel the items in question might be violations. If you're positive everything is legal, drive it and don't sweat it.

Since Wisconsin's law says I only need the equipment that was required in 1930, does anyone know what those equipment laws were? Windshields, operational doors??

The other thing I just remembered is that the Trooper told me because the motor is from the 1970's, I need all of the factory parts from that production year. I imagine he was making that up, but has anyone heard of that?

was his name sheriff Roy, and does he have a push bar on the front of his car?

some cops are just no fun, i got pulled over 2 years ago in IL, he said i didnt have an outside rear view mirror, i said it never had one from the factor so im not required to have one, he never did give me a tickit, just some greif.

  5. Post a bigger pic of your car, man.

What you have up now looks like the post office has issued a stamp commemorating the anniversary of the rat rod.

I'd file a complaint in writing (hand written gets more attention) and verbally over the telephone to the commissioner of the state troopers office. That should be his boss's....boss's..boss. They don't want to hear about it. And they don't like bad officers (contrary to what many would have you believe).

If he has a track record get everyoen together in case you need their stories and bitch. Bitch loud. Bitch in the paper's. Bitch on television if you can. Call a lot of attention to his action's. He won't like the scrutiny.

I think you got pulled over because you do not appear to be old enough to drive and your "hot rod" has plastic purple wheels. That thing appears to be no where near street legal.

Keep in mind, 99% of cops were the kids who got picked on in school for being nerds. Now that they have badges and big fat guts, they are throwing their weight around. His big fat hairy legged wife probably whoops his ass when he gets home from work. He has to be a tough guy somewhere, unfortunately its when he is cruising around picking on guys like you. Fuck that cop and the majority of
the others out there. I would document everything you have been thru and everything else you know of. Have it all notarized and get ahold of his boss' boss. Cocksucker cops.

We all know your just venting, but..........

Apparently, your not listening to some really sound advice................ Do your research of the laws 1st, so you dont look like a fool. THEN, Call his Supervisor and tell them what you think. Its possible the cop thought he was in the right, ans really thought he was doing you a favor with just a warning. Its also possible that there is a retarded law and youll have to have to 1970s equipment.

Either way, do the research, if your right, call them up. Itll save the whole Police force a little bad PR if the cop was in the wrong and his supervisor corrects him. HOWEVER, if he was right, Itll save you a whole lot of fines, and you fix the issues.

But if you do nothing, your only making the issue worse! Because the cop will think he was right, and will continue doing the same, and you will still have the loss of trust and respect for the law enforcement agency, and will spread that thoughts to others.

Now, if you do your part, and you were right, and call them up, and the Supervisor does nothing, then the loss of respect and trust of said agency is warranted, and deserved.

I completely agree. I've been researching Wisconsin Chapter Trans 305, which plainly states: "The vehicle equipment requirements for a street modified vehicle shall be the same as the vehicle equipment requirements for a vehicle of the same type and model year that is not a street modified vehicle."

And I know that in Wisconsin, and vehicle manufactured prior to 1950, isn't required to have fenders, bumpers, or seat belts, and only needs one taillight/brake light.

What I'm researching now is, whether or not I need to do something with my fuel tank and doors.

    Print this out

    http://www.legis.state.wi.us/rsb/code/trans/trans305.pdf

It clearly states that there are provisions for the TR305 for street modified vehicles....

    "
    (a) The vehicle equipment requirements for a street modified
vehicle shall be the same as the vehicle equipment requirements
for a vehicle of the same type and model year that is not a street
    modified vehicle."

In other words, your car only needs what was original equipment for a stock 1930 Ford.

    Hope this helps,

    Rich

I have found the same thing to be true about guys in truck equipment sales. Man, I hope you aren't serious.

  17. OK, I looked at your photobucket. Here's my take on it. Invest in a few cars of spray paint. Shoot it in grey or red oxide primer and paint the wheels all the same color. Contrasting colors like the blue or purple or what ever that is will do. Get yourself some old little hot rod books. The Old Skool rat rodders act like a bunch of idiots, so if you don't want the negitive attention, you should distance your car from that look. A little pride in what it looks like helps. If you're building a hot rod, make it look like a hot rod. If you're making a lawn sculpture, leave it on the lawn.

Guys who think rust is cool aren't building traditional cars. You're building 21st century rat rods. If that's your thing, be proud of it. In my never humble opinion, hot rods and customs are not about rebellion, or offending the citizens. They're works of art. They are personal expression. Maybe the cop is an unfair asshat. Maybe not. If the only people who shoot you the thumbs up are angry youth, and the normal Normans hate what you built, you don't have a hot rod. You have built the equivalent of a T-shirt with Fuck Off on it. Your car has a pretty nice stance and it has real potential. Do the right thing and make a hot rod out of it.

If the cop is really just a prick, then he's a prick to a lot of people and you can all get together and have him disiplined.

I still don't know if you got a "warning" that doesn't mean shit five minutes after that cop went off duty that day or if you got a "fix it ticket" that you have to get cleared or it will go to warrant?

Also, "GassersGarage" do you work in "Public Safety" in Lomita?

  21. 6t5frlane pretty much nailed it there. Some of you guys seem to be perpetually angry. WTF??? Keep that up and you'll need to develop a taste for Mylanta.

I know all cops aren't bad. I personally know several cops in my town and grew up with guys who became cops. I have no respect for them. I don't understand how someone can drink and drive, beat their wives, use illegal drugs, etc., can put on a badge and suddenly become an all knowing "enforcer". I don't like most of them and I wont pretend to. I respect your opinions though.

I agree with you completely. The next project is shortening a model a pick up bed for it. the rims are the same color now, but in the near future, it will get a set of chrome reversed rims. I don't want people to see it and say "cool rat rod", I want people to see and thnk "pure hot rod".

But at the same time, the car is drivable, and I want to be able to enjoy it this summer, as the Wisconsin winters are long, and not really good roadster weather.

FYI, I'm not sorry or ignorant. I just have an unfavorable opinion of most cops. I am a licensed US charter boat captain and earn a very good living in a professional career. You may be right about the test though, I have a bad knee.

  25. He is a Wisconsin state trooper. If the situation is still as it used to be, he has set court dates on his day off or not be in court when you fight it. Then if he is, he has to get the O/T ok'd before he shows up. It is one reason those cheesey troopers look for folks far from the court district they are operating in. So if the court district is in say Madison, the trooper will look for F.I.B.s or maybe Milwaukee or LaCross folks to nail instead of a local. He then feels the safe to not go to court as most folks won't go through the hassle and will just pay the fine. Then again, he may just be one of those assholes who became a cop because he was picked on as a kid or wanted to continue bulliing other folks.

  26. Now where is Otis ?

He spent the time to make sure he pointed out all the things he thought were wrong with your car while around the corner someone was getting robbed or murdered. Way to demonstrate "protect and serve"....sounds like you got served.

"The State Patrol provides traffic safety and enforcement services for Wisconsin."

They're sole prupose is motor vehicle enforcement and inspection, no investigative powers, etc. Ticket brokers.

In WI *some* warning tickets do need corrective action, others are informational only.

Call the super, you already know which statute protects you.
