LOL,, you get just as upset as i did when they decided to interpret the law as it was written and not as we ( as car builders) decided to interpret it for our own ends.. Get over yourself.. step back look at your pile of shit and seriuouly ask yourself, does it look like the original vehicle..and is it safe 90% of the time if you are wearing your rational head youll see it doesnt, but because your looking at it through rose tinted glasses you interpret the law to suit yourself.. Looking at the rat rods in the USA the first place they would end up over here is the scrap heap since most of them are a poor excuse to cobble together some garbage car parts to resemble what some lifestylers think of as a throw back to the early days.. Its because of the rat rod movement and the piles of shite built in the name of hot rodding attention has been drawn to the hobby by legislaters.. Tell you what I havent half read some crap on here from some real fuckin idiots..LOL.. probably few of which have the smarts to attempted to build a car, never mind register one.. lol,,

QUOTE why you would want to comment on laws in another country is beyond me ..

LMAO.. ffs thats the American way.. you guys do it all the time.. just so happens I studied agood portion of Registration laws from various states in the USA to campare with what we have here with a view to forcing some sort of change to the way Hot Rods are registered, and guess what, there is very little diffrence.. ours are very similar I suppose its common sence, somthing a good few are sadly lacking.

    LOL,
    I think the main determining factor is;
Is it a Street Modified or a reconstructed vehicle. I'm NO lawyer or State Trooper but it looks to me it is what ever you tell the DMV it is for titleing.

and according to TRANS 305.065 (B)

    (b) Replica and street modified vehicles. The department shall
issue a title indicating that a vehicle, except a motorcycle, is a replica
or street modified vehicle and the make and model year shown
on the title shall be the original make and model year of the street
modified vehicle or the make and model year of the vehicle being
replicated. The installation of reproduction body parts on a previously
manufactured and titled vehicle body and frame is not
considered by the department to constitute a replica vehicle for
purposes of identifying the vehicle on its title.
    A vehicle shall be
considered a replica or a street modified vehicle if it has been certified
by the owner to be a replica or a street modified vehicle for
purposes of registration under s. 341.268, Stats.
    A vehicle shall
also be considered a street modified vehicle if the vehicle’s engine
has been replaced with one which required adaptation beyond
    ordinary replacement.

    From 341.268
    (d) “Reconstructed vehicle” means a motor vehicle of any age
which has been substantially altered or modified from original
manufacturers specifications to such an extent that it no longer
    resembles the original manufactured vehicle.

    (f) “Street modified vehicle” means a motor vehicle of any age
which has been modified from original manufacturers specifications,
but does not include any reconstructed vehicle as defined
    under par. (d).

So as long as it is TITLED as a Street Modified, you should be able to wait your 30 days(if ya want to), go for the inspection, recieve the tickets, then go to court and fight it. LOL, Hell if all else fails throw a few more T parts on it for good measure.

    just my 2 cents,

Carry a set of these into court with you. Tell the Judge your car is in your garage at home today because you brought the parking brake with you!

Hearing from this Redoxide sure doesn't do much for the image of law-enforcement. The moron can't even spell, yet he wants us to believe he is in a position to write laws. What it boils down to is he is there, and we are here. He has no idea what our wheels look like anymore than we know what his look like. We have different geography, different government, and we don't drive on the same side of the road. You handle things there, Red, and we'll take care of the Badger, in the good old US of A. Hey, what do they make rods out of in Scotland, anyway? Ole Pork

hey pork old fella, our wheels are round, same as yours, with the same problems registering modified autos, I didnt say I wrote legislation, but to help to allieviate the problems I looked at other places to see what the legislation was like to see if there was an argument could be put forward to make things easier here. In the end it looked as though most places face the same problems. There is a fella over here who is very much into the legislation side of things with the DVLA fighting the cause for hot rodders with little to no backing, hes keeping things afloat and doing a good job. The problems we are encountering now are EXACTLY the same in principal to those that are being discussed here.

As a car builder I interpret the legislation to suit me, ive learned it backwards and I manipulate the loopholes, sadly they are being closed fast.

We have to construct our vehicles to a much higher standard even so far as taking care of sharp edges, which must be a specified radius!

As hot rodders we face the same dilema regardless of our location round the globe.

I may not be a hot speller, especially on the likes of a web forum where I dont consider it to be an essential element and I will concede that it is none of my buisness what interpretation of the law you have in your part of the world, but this is the world wide web, like you, I have access to the DMV through this medium and I have read what it has to say several times, ( I can read even though I cant spell).

Feel free to check out our DVLA, broaden your horizons and see how difficult it is to register a rod in other parts of the world. Im only realy interested in the hot rod related issue of registration, Its interesting to note that the difficulties are spreading, probably because of the web, and the interest in rods from the T.V. with programes such as American Hot Rod, chop cut rebuild, wrecks to riches etc.. even folks who work in the DMV watch TV..I think thats how Boyds got found out last time..

As for projects I have several on the go, I am building a 36 3 window taildrager, ( personal project) and currently importing a 52 Ford F1 ( another personal project)
For my buddy I am carying out lots of sheet metal work on his 35 cabriolet early style custom, for my other buddy I provided help /tools and garage space to build his 35 Ford 5 window, I also help him with his latest 35 ford roadster, past personal projects include 40 ford truck, 50 series one chevy truck, 1928 A roadster on B rails, 1928 A coupe, 1930 sedan with 303 olds power, 1932 B 3 window ( piece of fibre glass shit) with a baby hemi, and a fist full of other late model ( 50s on) garbage..

And ive jumped through hoops to licence them all ....

I dont have a huge ego, I build this stuff because I love to build them, I love the hobby regardless of what side of the ocean its on. I dont get off on bullying people and I dont take kindly to bullies, I escape in the garage.

You need to get out more, move from wisconsin, its disapeared off the radar since shirley and lavern were taken of the air ..LOL..

If you want pics just ask, I have hundreds of build up pics that would bore you to death.. I would like to see what you are bulding at the moment, hope its something that wont find you being hassled by "asshole" cops.

fkn "moron" lmao..if it wasnt such a pathetic attempt at an insult I would stop laughing and return with some witty retort.

Appologies for hijacking this post, did so purley in responce to having both arms ripped off and beat around the head..but ole pork did ask...

So in reply, In Scotland we dont make rods we build them and a "MORON" like me is currently building hot rods out of these>>>>>

His reason for the stop is that he could see the violations (no hood, no fenders, bumper and he could hear the violation.(exaust) You're right, some cops definately can be dicks, but to most of them tickets are just a numbers game to satisfy the supervisor. Most cops are under constant pressure for activy, meaning arrests and tickets, and if you live in a suburban or rural area where not a lot happens, the cop is gonna get his activity wherever he can, usually on the backs of people not doing anything all that bad, just "bending" the law a little. It's not personal for most of them, its what they're paid to do...and when they see a hot rod they see an easy four or five tickets. That means theres four or five less car stops they'll have to do. It's an easy stop that always pays off for the cop(ie tickets) Just because the violations code book is out of date, it doesn't mean the codes are. The books are updated every year, usually with only a change in a paragraph or two, so most cops buy one when they get out of the acadamy and use that one for the rest of their career, and don't waste the money on buying a new book. If you want to fight the ticket, go to wherever his headquarters is and ask to see the violations code book, which will tell you what is and is not legal. If all else fails register your car in florida, run Fla tags, (almost anything goes down there) A lot of Pa rodders do that. If you have any questions you can Pm me

Y'know Red, You've got some nice stuff there. And no we wouldn't be bored w/pics. Always like to see what others are doing . And , I do have to agree that there has to be some regs, or some people w/go crazy. But a person shouldn't have to look for loopholes. It should be clear. And uniformally applied and enforced. The problem we got here is that different agencies in Wi. can't even agree. But that's normal for Wi. Add an over-zealous trooper to that, and you've got a can of worms. Most of us have safety # 1, but there is that occasional nut-case who'll just throw things together . I apologize for calling you a moron. You're just very opinionated (like me). Anyway you seem like a real likable fella, Red. Lay some pics on us. I for one, am always interested in what others are doing. Looks like some fine workmanship on what I've seen so far.......Ole Pork

Pork, the laws are written by lawyers, if they were clear and easy to understand, they wouldnt be able to make a living..your appologie is graciously accepted and thank you for your compliment re projects. I dont post many pics because I fear that people might think im massaging my ego or showing off. Im just a car dude that happens to be a cop, I get flipped off when all cops are classed as mugs and assholes, Ive been hearing it for over 22 years and get whacked when i have to endure it as part of my hobby too.. thanks again, good luck with the wisconsin DMV regs.

Had run ins with this cop also. Being this town is the county seat there are a lot of cops. All of them wave at me whether i'm on a long loud chopper or driving my 30 ford. But this one state boy has been a problem for years. When a cop tells you he could pull over every car that goes to the local show, he's out for hot rodders or bikers.
