I had some things advertised on a car club cl***ifieds site other then here. A guy (guy#1) emails me and says the wants one of the items for a $100. I don't personally know of guy#1, but I've heard of him in club circles. Promises a postal money order. Well today in the mail I get a NOT a personal money order, but a personal check. And to top things off the check is from a totally different individual (individual #2) then guy #1. Note with the check saying guy#1 couldn't get to the post office so he had her send a check. Address on check is not the same as return on the envelope or where they want parts sent to.

On the check there is the bank's phone number. Call the bank and they won't tell me if there are funds suciffient to cover the check. Teller told me it was against their "privicy policy".

Look up in my club roster and guy#1 is listed as a member. Can't easily go over to his place and check him out since he lives across the country...This might be legit but something smells fishy to me, am I right? I have this gut feeling that something isn't right. Should I just return the check or???

  2. I'd send it back, and tell him you only accept Postal Money orders. This is because you do not have a bank account..
And tell him the fact that it is someone else's check made you wonder. If he gets pissed off, screw him. Then he was pulling some ****.

I guess he can't read. I'd send the check back & tell him to send the MO or the deal's off.

Make him Pay Pal the cash to You instead. better to be out the 8 bucks rather than out the part AND the 30 dollar fee.

if he really wants it, he will make it happen. if he doesn't, then You dodged a bullet. worst case scenario, You still have parts for sale.

No, No, No,,, You send a note back to the guy, tell him you gave the check to your girl friend to cash, she took it to the post office to cash, but they Post Office told her she couldn't cash it, cause she didn't have an account with them...LOL...

Send the check back to the address on it, not the guy#1 address.

Tell him you only take money orders, sorry.

Send it back SIGNED RECEIPT, and say you want a Postal Money Order as requested in the first place. Can't get to the post office is a Bull **** excuse, musical chairs as to who sent the check makes it even worse.

Is there a phone number on the check? If so, call it and see what the check writer says.

one more thought... take it to thier bank and cash it if there is a local branch.

and a check can bounce well after 10 days. I've heard of them bouncing 30 days later

Sounds like he is trying to steal from person #2 to get your parts. Whether the check clears or not, once you send the parts to him, not directly his problem anymore and he gets some free parts. I say he needs to get his act together or no parts. Look out for yourself and also be considerate and respectful of this person #2 who likely was about to get ripped off. Maybe call person #2 and see what they say if there is a number on the check or call info and get number.

most people don't understand, " pay with U.S. postal money order only "
I put this or "paypal" in all of my adds and 50% of customers send a check anyway.

    send it back.

I don't want to deposit the check if theres a doubt because my bank will charge ME a service fee of $3.50 if this other individual's check bounces. Since I'm half-way across the country from this guy, there are no branches on the bank it's drawn on anywhere around here.

To me it just dosen't equal up....If guy #1 couldn't made it to the Post Office, why not send a check with HIS name on it???

Here's what the note included with the check said (it's been edited to remove iden***y, but sentence structure and incomplete sentences are as written):

    Hi,
Mi name is (Individual #2). I an just a good friend. (Guy #1) could not make it to mail this so I am doing it for him as I visit with family.
    Signed (Individual #2)
    for and ship to:
    (guy#1)
    (Guy #1's address)

Sounds like a scam to me. I'd send his check back and be done dealing with him completely.

I say 100% scam. Is their spelling really that bad? I wouldn't even waste time sending the check back. Rip it up and toss it and tell him, phone or e-mail, to send a real payment asap or somebody else is getting the parts.

Send it back. I'll do money orders when I sell on ebay, but you have to be careful with those too because you can stop payment on them. If you read the fine print most of them will say they should not be cashed or deposited anywhere the funds can't be retrieved.

Teach him a lesson, cash the check, then resell the parts to someone else. Then when it's all done, send me half of the money !!!

***uming the check is from a bank you have access to w/o going too far out of your way, take it to the bank that issued the check and cash it.... simple, you get the money if its in the account and he gets the part, everyones happy. dont be affraid of a little inconvenience, money is money...

But if the check bounces after he gets the money, then he gets charged a fee...

Send it back with a finger on ice, then tell him that more will suffer the consequences if he doesn't pay.

  27. I use Postal Money Orders so that both parties are protected. Might not go to jail, but ya will catch hell!

  28. Stop payment? How come they never told me this?!!!

Be careful, Money Orders are being forged everyday. PayPal or cash. Credit Cards if you come into the shop.
