....to be on this site? Do I need to be a hot rodder and what is a hot rod. Webster defines it as "a person who drives a motor vehicle that has been specially modified to give it extra power or speed." So if I fabricate a paxton supercharger on to my Porsche 914 can I hang out here?

I’d imagine you’ve already read the rules. Given the fact you were able to post. Now it’s simple just follow them or leave. We’ve been around too long to argue such stuff.

rules are here. I guess you have never seen them or know the focus of this site? read and you will answer your own question https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-h-a-m-b-rules-guidelines.44274/

  5. Nothing says you have to be, build or even own a H.A.M.B. era hot rod to hang out or add to the conversation in a constructive way, and follow the rules.

I am an oval track racer, but my build fits the H.A.M.B. guidelines and I don't post any off topic subjects.

seems like he is though, he had a thread about a SBC harmonic balancer a short while back and the vehicle had a serpentine belt (gasp) on it

The 914 is about 4-5 years after the age cutoff, but if they produced the car prior to the age cutoff & you wanted to present your Paxton supercharged version, by all means it would be welcomed. There is a great & longstanding thread on U.S. & foreign made sports cars, which concerns the history, build questions, modifications, etc.

    4. We cover traditional '65 and older American cars only. All other threads will be deleted. We don't cover rat rods, muscle cars, mustangs, or VWs.

This and similar quoting of civilian dictionaries comes up often enough. But is wrong. Well meaning, but wrong.

Hot rodding, in the traditional sense, is a niche area, with it's own hobby specific words, terms and lanuage usage. It's like any professional or industry specific jargon. That's why there are things called glossaries in many subject specific publications, enabling the reader to understand words and terms as used and applied in a specific environment.

Fishing posts are only allowed using traditional handmade bamboo fly rods or cane poles. No graphite or carbon fiber.

Here’s an illustration of a Porsche that’s within the H.A.M.B. criteria, and ironically at the same time explains their basic engineering philosophy.

  15. Sometimes, it happens that after the recreational consumption of adult beverages, or other substances, the operator of a computer's keyboard can formulate goofy posts. Also under this same induced state of mind, that same person can also be found entering large bids on certain online auction sites as the auction is coming to it final bid.

If you changed it a little and it was Paxton supercharger on a 1963 Corvair it might slide by.

    Okay guys... hear me out.

    Pictures.

Illustrated rules. You know, like those comic book themed army training manuals -or- those in-flight emergency instruction sheets. Because, reading and comprehending don't always go hand-in-hand. :D:D:D

we already have that, here https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/guidelines-the-traditional-hot-rod-forum.828348/
Nobody looks at it.... people for the most part do not get it.... It is like herding cats

  23. This is my take on it, if it wasn't available on an American car in 1965, it doesn't fit in on the hamb. If you have a mechanical piece on your car that doesn't meet that, hide it, i.e. brakes, transmission, etc... it's really simple, make it look like it was in 1965 or before. And no mustangs.

  26. I've only been a benefits receiving member here for a couple of years, but it seems like I've seen this topic come up here multiple times, and each person wants to argue the subject of what's acceptable on a forum that another man created to cover subject matter that he's into. Like Ryan is gonna change his focus and interests because it doesn't fit what somebody else wants. I don't see what brings people to the hamb with these subjects, it's not like you can Google "best forum for square body Chevy trucks" and wind up here.

  27. The rules say that if the body style didn't change from 65 that it gets a p***.

  28. I Google'd hot rod, had to cover the screen really fast before Ashley seen the search results lmao!

It seems that there is always a lot of preaching to the converted regarding what the HAMB is.
It also seems that a minority don't want to hear it, even though it is all spelled out clearly for everyone.
There should be no confusion as to what this place is focused on.
The "you can't tell me what to do" at***ude would appear to be alive and well.
I wonder what the Webster's dictionary says under "objectionable" ?......
