So, what did ya get done this weekend?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Rocky, Feb 29, 2004.

  1. My garage is so small, I can only work on one side of my car [41 Pontiac coupe] at a time so I tackled the left front corner today. I freed up the camber adjusters in preparation for adjustment after cutting the coils. I busted off the stabilizer bar links [already have new ones with neopreme rubber bisquits] and dropped the coil spring. I reduced it's mass by 2 loops and found this big ass steel plate some brain donor had slipped under the coil spring! I really thought I had a broken leaf spring on the right rear but now I think this stupid plate under the left front spring was the cause of the leaning...we'll see after I do the other side. I disassembled the left front brake and honed the shit outta the wheel cylinder but it's a goner. I'll take it with me to my brake/clutch guy and have him get me all new cylinders...linings looked great as did the wheel bearings. I'll probably replace the bearing grease with 10 weight oil for drag racing purposes at MoKan..
    Just kidding!
I'm still blown about the fuckin steel plate under the spring...that's weird!
I popped the shortened spring back in place and bolted the control arm back in place too... Looks like I'll still have some space between the arm and the frame..oh, and I took 2 inches off the rubber snubbers too... and I removed those hokey ass grile pieces below my headlights...looked like steel tears running outa my headlights, down my front fenders and I hated the look...

Washed, and cleaned all the dirt out of the interior of Coopey Doo, loaded it on the trailer for the ride to the welding shop.
Cross member is just tacked in, going to complete welding once we are sure the suspension is square.

After spending friday at Detroit Autorama, I had some inspiration to work on the interior of my sedan. I will have some pics at a later date, when it is closer to completion. -Joe

I actually worked on something this weekend!!!!!!

Wife's '51 has a nasty engine compartment. I decided to strip it down and get ready for some detailing. The more I took off, the more I wanted to keep stripping... Ended up taking the whole top end apart. Getting a new manifold, dizzy, etc... All going back together once I paint this shit hole of an engine compartment...

I worked on my 49 Ford got the engine runnin (351 Cleveland) I traded some stuff for it and the motor was all apart but in the car. It had 8 seized lifters, I mounted a radiator in it, mounted a battery box, put wheel cylinders on, bled the brakes, ran some wiring, put the front of the motor together, set the timing etc etc. It fired right up and sounds great!! Had 70 lbs of oil pressure at first then dropped to 60 when it warmed up. I think we are gonna start the chop this week!!

  15. I finally got to work on my wife's 62 Olds. The car needed a heater core, and even though I had the parts sitting around for a couple of months, this was the first weekend where the weather was good enough to spend a couple of houurs outside. (no garage). I also re-installed the stereo in her car, so she has heat and sound again. Next weekend .. the interior...

Not much productive.........but I had fun.

The wife and I drove the old 40 Ford coupe down to Charleston SC. Some friends had a rodders gathering and we joined in. Then we went down to the old historic area and ate seafood at Hymans......a old Charleston tradition. This place has the names of the Famous people who have eaten there engraved on brass plates and secured to the tables. My wife ate where Martha Stewart dined and I sat at where Martin Sheen dined.

It was 70+ and sunny so it was great. Played tourist and walked the Battery and the old slave market areas. We both grew up in Charleston was it was real neat to go back and visit..... [IMG]

I actually got my car put back together and took it for a drive today!!! [IMG]
One problem though... [IMG] It died on me about 10 miles from home, about 1/2 hr into my drive...actually, it started makin all kinds of noises, and runnin like shit, so I shut it down...
I dragged it home and did some thinkin....
Right now I have my oil cooler and remote filters bypassed, and just screwed a filter on the block.... (7 qt capacity instead of usual 12!)
well after drivin a while, the oil got pretty hot (bout 240), and I had lashed the valves a little tight to see if it helped performance any... and as near as I can tell they were a little TOO tight after the oil got hot and I had some valves hangin open!!! [IMG] [IMG]
I sat on the side of the road a few and tried to fire it back up, and it wouldn't start, sounded like NO compression...
after pullin it home, it had cooled down a little, so I tried again, and it fired right up, but was popping through the carb every revolution (like an intake valve's hanging open), so I guess I'll go lash the valves at the factory specs tomorrow and see what happens! [IMG]

Came close to completing the porting work on a flathead block for Rich Guasco, and by the end of the work day on Saturday the results were killer! On Tuesday and Wednesday I'll finish polishing the exhaust bowls and runners and blend and polish the deck relief, then port match the manifold.

Not glamorous or even understood by or intersting to the custom-car folks, but the hot rodders will get it when I say I love doing this work!

Lets see... drank... drank more... kept drinking. Then I passed out. Woke up becuase two shitfaced marines were brawling in the kitchen next to the room I was passed out in. Hoped they would knok each other out so I could go back to sleep. Didn't happen, they crashed thru the door of the room I was in. Annoyed, I got up and turned the lite on but before I could do anything else, in flys the girl whose house it was and she ATTACKED, kung fu style.

"Do you notice that you each have one of my feet on your throat??? You can either die now, or chill the hell out!!!"

That was hot. The drunk fools left. I turned around and went back to sleep.

Today I put four new plugs in my new old jappy cycle. Found it has a vacuum leak, must address.

Now I'm at work. On my way here, I raced and beat a guy driving a new Gangsta Unit. (G-class mercedes truck-thing.) Someone please tell Ricky that my U haul truck is now faster than $85K worth of bling bling.

  27. Ripped the Tijuana interior out of the 'A' roadster this weekend. Smelly old padding, rotten wood and mouse turds. Will get the carpet ordered this week, then start fabbing the panels and seat back. But first I've got to pull the top of the passenger side of the body in a mite to get the door to fit better. I'll be busy for awhile.

  28. Yesterday, I got started on the rewire job on the '60 Panel. I have the motor, headlight, ignition and a few other things wired, and pulled the wires thru the frame to the rear and had to stop for the night. Then today it decides to rain [IMG]. Shit, I need a garage [IMG]. I don't think I took as many wires out as are going back in. [IMG] [IMG]

I rewired my '49. Decided how to mount the chrysler alt on it. Got the pass. side front suspension apart for some spring cutting. Did some more sanding / painting. Put in new plugs. And best of all.. got the engine running for a couple of minutes. It hasn't been driven since '68. Still has the flathead 6, but it sounded pretty good and had good oil pressure. Carb still worked pretty well!

I went to Temecula hotrod show and checked out tons of cars... some good a lot bad... not my taste I guess. I can't understand why people spend so much time on interior and paint and chrome and billet... then they put shitty $75 dollar wheels on the car. hmmm ???? Today I went to the Long Beach swap and checked out all the shit there... I bought my 27 california plates for my 27RPU but could not find much more worth takin home... sat on the couch and played MX unleashed on the XBOX and cleaned out the garage a bit. WOW fun! ohhh yea spent tooo much time on the fuckin HAMB... next weekend is PAMONA Swap.... look out...
