i got a good bit done, actually. lately, if i'm not working on my pontiac, i'm helping a friend with his 53 chevy truck. friday, we spent almost the entire day cleaning out his garage. his parents split, andhe's still living at home, so his shop has been accumulating shit and not getting straightened out for a year now. christmas was good to him, and his dad is doing pretty good by him in helping him out with spare tools here and there. so we got it abouthalf cleaned up, hung out, moved his chassis, cab, and bed over to one side so his little bro could use the far bay to fix his mustang. good to see this friend of mine is getting started, he's got themakings of a nice shop. last night, i was up till 1 am patching and shaving the driver's side rear door for my pontiac. got it all done pretty well. i had to patch it just in front of the start of the fatassfender (tm) with a simple single curve panel, and i tell ya, it was a PERFECT patch. no warpage, appropriate sized piece to get rid of all shitty metal, good welds, and perfect fit. it ROCKS to learn new stuff and see how much better you get as you go!

I am now the proud owner of a truck! I bought a 1961 F100 shortbed unibody. The truck runs well and even has a fairly straight body. I spent most of the day Saturday cleaning out the crud. It was used as a haul to the dump truck. I will get new tires to replace the scary recaps and then start driving it as my commuter.

I did something VERY important towards the completion of my project. Even though I didn't actually do any work on the A. Some of you guys(/gals) will understand:

It was my wife's birthday Sunday so I spent the weekend making it her "special day".

  4. I finally got the Galaxie back on the road. Only after replacing the lifters, and rebuilding the top end. The battle this weekend was the damn Oil pump drive shaft, quite possably the dumest design Ford has done yet. It took hours to get that in place and drop the Dist. in place, only to keep having to pull up the dist. and get the timing set. [IMG].. Then when we fianlly got the timing right noticed the fuel pump was shot, so I installed a new one and changed the oil. Then I was ready to take it out for a cruise, on a sunny but cold day.. Let me tell you it felt good to drive it again. After being down for 2 months I can drive it daily again.. [IMG] Its not same driving the wifes Jeep, I was in need of a fix bad...

Hopefully the pics will come out OK, tomorrow- got a lot of prep work on the '57 Effie done, weather be damned. RE-applied self-etching primer Saturday before Work, Sunday I FINALLY got past the etching stage, got the cab draped in filler primer. Still need to go back and re-do a few areas (particularly for the etching, which was a bit thin in a few areas), but at least I got 'er all primered up.
Meanwhile, been getting closer to having the bed and rear fenders ready for primer. Frickin' winter nights. Great - albeit SLOW - progress, though. Should have pics tomorrow. How I lust for indoor shop space...
