ALOT of Kool looking engines posted here, I'm a SBC guy, But if $$$ was no problem, I think a DOHC Ford/Foyt Indy car engine in a High Boy Roadster would do it for me. I think w/electronic fuel injection and backing off, cams and compression, it could be made to work. Would this be practical, probely not, ridiculously expensive, yes, more than likely, a very high dollar boat anchor, but the thread question is, what do I think would be Kool and good looking. All the standards are Kool, dressed Flatheads, Nailheads, BBC, SBC, Cads, Olds, any engine looks good if detailed properly.

Highlander, do I have a story for you. Early seventies I was probably 13 yrs old I am walking down the street, I see a scruffy looking, primer spotted pilothouse Dodge PU with Chrome reverse wheels on it and ladder bars with the hood up. So I cross the street to see whats up, and under the hood is a sq. pt. BBC with a 950 3bbl on it!

I'm a BBC guy 'cause torque is king. But the Hemi is just a visual whopper.
Beaner - I know the Cosworth is OT, but damn I want to put one in a T speedster!

SBC haters can hate, here's an actual 'vette engine. Then again, they all are, right?

    Root,

With your talent and propensity for makin' little sbc's run I have no doubt that you could make a little pickemup truck do wheelies just like the Fly. BUT; I'm still hopin' that you go the nailhead route...

One of the things that holds me back is the lack of good pistons for the Nailhead.

Stack of Chevy rods? How many did you blow up? I've done half a dozen, and earned the right to call em a pos.

Its funny a ford guy would pick rods as the subject of a anti-chevy rant, if I wanted to make fords look good, I would avoid the topic of rods. Chevy doesn't do any broach cut rods. Ford does.
Never broken a chevy rod. EVER. I shift my daily driver 355 at 7000, the short block is virtually stock. I have built sbc's with steel rods that were shifted at 8000. If you are breaking chevy rods all the time, you are doing something wrong.
I own sbc's, sbf's, an FE, an Olds 324, a Desoto Hemi, and BBM's, so its pretty hard to make the case that I am a "chevy guy", or that I have any bias.

Same could be said about the sbc. Tired, worn, and wasn't really cool the first time it was mentioned.and it's not a hot rod engine,it's a street rod engine.

This is a photo of a broach-cut 302 ford rod. Ford also used this machining method on all 289s except 271hp, 351 Windsors, and 429's and 460s, with the exception of truck and 429cj or SCJ rods. They do it because its cheap. As pretty much anyone can see, it creates a massive stress riser right across the thinnest part of the rod.

Anybody with any experience racing small-block ford will try to side-step the question of rod strength when they are on an anti-chevy rant, the rods are the most pronounced inherent weakness in small-block and 385 series fords.
Bias, right? My first car was a 302 Pinto, I currently have a 428FE, and I have a factory 4-speed '65 Futura HT that I am putting a 331/toploader in, and I have a mid-sixties style 289 T-bucket project that the XF-8 I posted is ear-marked for. As well as all this stuff, over the years, I have built 289's, 302's 351 clevelands (and have one under my deck right now) and a 460 for other guys.
Chevys, mopars, and frankly everything else I have ever built, used spot-faced rods. Even Ford basically admits that the cheapo broached cut rods are junk, they didnt use them in the 271hp 289s, or Boss 302's or 429CJ's or 429 SCJ's. Those are the facts.
This is why when EXPERIENCED Ford engine builders go on an anti-Chevy rant, they try not to talk about rods...;)

For eye candy it has to be Early Hemi's , Chevy W , and a 12 or 16 cly flathead.

I also run the chevy oiling system STOCK, right down to the pump, I dont even use a high-volume pump. I use a deep pan, but I do it to keep the oil off the crank, and I run 5 in an 8 quart pan with one in the filter. Irony is, I do extensive oiling system mods to Clevelands, FE's, and 429/460's.

Bader, if you like Fords, thats great, so do I, but if you are going to constantly bash chevys on here, at least try to come up with some reasons that have at least some basis in fact.
