One of the greatest songs ever, How many songs can you actually Howl with ?!!!!

One thing I just noticed is I don't remember seeing any beach boys, jan and dean or related type groups mentioned..... Being a car site with stately gentlemen in attendance (us old guys) I figured to see some of these older car song groups mentioned...

  6. Ok, my third most favorite is Leonard Cohen and his "Everybody Knows" at least 12 years ago before he died, predicting the predicament that politics are in now. Listen and read the words closely.

And you won't very often. I love the HAMB... but the issue you just addressed is probably the most dismaying to me. You mean to tell me, that as a group, we're the most traditionally and historically true to the hobby of hot rodding and customizing and share an interest and respect for so many other related things from those times... yet I've seen a number of members here talk disparagingly about the music? They say, "We got sick of it" Really? Who is "we"? And did you all get sick of it at the same time, or was it over the course of a few weeks or months or something? I think maybe they never liked it in the first place. Or they're afraid of admitting they actually like it cuz they don't want to appear less than manly.
I like varied kinds of music. But as with a good book or a movie or your hobby, I think music should be an escape from the stresses of reality... as opposed to immersing you in it. You know... generally speaking, positive... uplifting... HAPPY! And if it does deal with certain life issues, it better at least have some socially redeeming value. Ya gotta mix a little hope in with the despair for it to really mean anything. But "darkness" just for its own sake? No thanks... no good reason for it. You can keep it.
I still like the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean and all the rest.
    And 40s music.
    And 30s music.
    And old country.
    Rockabilly.
    Surfing music.
    Old movies.
Even The Waltons. So there.

    Pink Floyd... yes.

I especially like the music from about 1965 back because it fits with what we do here. Anything after that seems kind of too new to listen to in an old car.

But I'm 63 and a product of the late 60s early 70s also. So I like the hard rock and psychedelic stuff, too. Far out, man.
Have to admit... The Pink Floyd Eclipse album is one of my all-time favorites.

I joined the army in 1975. Took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Toward the end of our 3 months, we had a little more free time and a few dollars. A couple of the guys bought boomboxes. I clearly remember all of us being in the barracks on a Sunday afternoon, our group on the third floor. A bunch of us were at one end of the barracks, just hanging out and enjoying the Pink Floyd Eclipse album and Lynyrd Skynyrd Free Bird. But if you walked toward the other end of the barracks, you could hear the black guys enjoying Isley Brothers I Hope You Feel Better Love and Al Green Let's Stay Together echoing down the hallway.
Made me smile at the time.
    A good memory.

  11. Growing up in the 60's and playing in a couple of bands I liked it all, soul music, rock & roll and country.

Living in this area a band had to adapt to please the audience, We played all kinds of venues and I learned to like it all. HRP

There was a time when I could listen to the long version of Free Bird.
Now it's like a looped recording of fingernails on a chalkboard for me.

Gumbo Radio out of Houma Louisiana. Lots of vintage country
and "Swamp Pop" which tends to be local Cajun artists and
bands doing some really cool originals and very loosely structured
cover tunes. Fish and game reports along with hot tips on where the shrimp are running and such. Also an all Cajun French music
show on Sunday mornings. Really a fun listen.

I mostly like the old stuff and Rock through the '60s.
    If you like Led Zeppelin....
Check out these young guys from here in Michigan.
    Damn good.
    I guess they're making a splash.

  19. Left Lane Cruiser is a local outfit from the Ft. Wayne area. Never thought about them having an "international" following. I've spent some time in Waynedale over the years but it tends to be much more laid back than this song might lead you to believe.

Today it was Warren Zevon. Yesterday it was Jason Isbell. Before that it was Don Henley, before that it was Reverend Peyton. Alexa, play something interesting...

I like almost all types of music, just depends on my mood, always had a radio on for background in my shops but for the last 10 years or so I just like the quiet, same deal in my cars, just quiet listening to engine noise, enjoying the beauty of the scenery. Another sign of being Old I guess, they say you're only as old as you feel, I'm 73, don't feel a day older than 83. LOL

    Hey FB,

You do know that devices like Alexa and others that obey any questions asked, like Siri, always have their recorders on and we do not know who or what is listening or has stored for another day. No conspiracy theories, but modernization is a little strange and scary at the same time. It is not that we are planning an exchange of trade secrets on our next hot rod purchase or build, or something, but those tv shows and movies about "someone is always listening” are a bit shaky.

We got one listening device for a gift and it still sits in our closet unopened as we don’t use those things. On the road, sometimes, if necessary, my wife will use her Siri to follow a road turning direction, but my Android phone has all of those recording devices disabled. For the most part, we discuss and I have a route planned out for her driving to various friend’s houses if I am not going along for the ride.

But, there will be the time when when she misses the turn off and ends up a mile down the strange road. So, that is when Siri gets turned on and asked for directions.

For the most part, we are old school and don’t use those devices. Even our computer/laptop cameras are turned off or covered up. Privacy is important for us. Our phones are for talking and not for road maps, unless absolutely a necessity. (not even for music in our station wagon...we have an old style mp3 player for that purpose)

    Jnaki

Our son and granddaughter would laugh at us as they know we don’t like those devices. But they look at us with envy because of the long standing history of the whole So Cal area and travel routes from memory in the current state of mind. In our garage, we use some modern technology, a first gen Apple Ipod Touch mp3 player. No Bluetooth, no listening voice, not even a built in speaker, but the device makes music for all of the places in our house and station wagon road trips when necessary.

But for now, the latest random selections that popped up for some garage tinkering were these by:

    The Killers:
    Human:

    When We Were Young:

All These Things I Have Done:

    Mr. Brightside:

Some of the lyrics from these songs goes with our 20 something days of carefree activities and history. Boy, those were the days to relive and enjoy, again. Music makes it so… History, good for the heart.

Generally, my shop is too noisy to hear anything, and it's just me, I don't talk unless it's to swear when I break a trunk lid hinge or something. I'm not concerned about my Alexa device listening in on secret conversations, I don't have anything to hide.

In a world filled with noise, my shop is filled with silence with occasional outbursts of profanity.
