So what's the secret to posting larger pictures?

I mostly post JPEG files with an outlined limit of 117KB per photo, but by the time I adjust my photos to this size using photoshop, the dimension is a quarter of its original size. Is there a better file to use? I've noticed other members are able to post threads with full dimension photos while mine look like thumbnails.

    Thanks.

I have a photobucket account. I use the link they provide that has the "IMG" thing at the start and finish of the link.

  4. Most of the large pics are hosted on another site - when you shrink your pics in Photoshop don't resize them so small - use the save for web feature in Photoshop, that will compress them without having to re-size!

thats exactly what i've been doing! Now I know not to resize in photoshop and I will look for "save for web" feature. Thanks for that as well.

  7. There's no real reason not to resize in Photoshop, especially if you want to crop a pic or do some other editing. Just remember to think in terms of pixel dimensions instead of inches if you're resizing for web use. But it will be a little slower if you've got a large batch of stuff unless you've made a PS Action to do this specific job.

If you haven't already, consider downloading Picasa from Google or Irfanview. They're both free photo browsing programs which also allow some basic editing and more importantly they do batch processing for resizing and some other functions. You selelct the the pictures to process, the size you want and how much jpeg compression to apply and they'll grind out a buttload of files in no time. Then load them up to Photobucket or some other photo hosting site and link them to the forum here.

Some forums have a maximun picture size, mainly the width so you don't break the frames in the forum. The pics I posted here are 480px maximum width which seems big enough for most shots.

And a little jpeg compression can keep the file sizes smaller which makes them faster to upload and the forum pages will load faster too. People with slower internet connections (like me) will love you for going to the extra trouble.

If you just have to post a larger picture (800x600, 1200x1600 or larger) put a thumbnail in the forum and link it to the full size picture on the image hosting site. But Photobucket and maybe some of the other free hosting sites have a maximum size limit of 800x600 pixels.
