Howdy folks, I have a new pair of stainless somberro caps that I need trim rings welded on the back, So is there anyone that can recomend someone? I want first cl*** work from someone who deals a lot in thin stainless. Thanks in advance! -Eric
Newbie Ash is the daughter of Dan Webb. He's a certified aerospace welder fer cryin' out loud. One of the best I've ever seen.
Thanks for the compliment Steve, but I don't think thats something I want to mess with. The lightest Stainless I have TIG'd is 24g and its no cakewalk keeping it from distorting. I would imagine that a wheel cover is made out of stainless even thinner than that. Besides that, I don't do much Stainless work anymore. Other than doing my yearly updates in order to keep my AWS certifications, I've been doing my best to try and "forget" how to weld 8 hours a day for 20 years has pretty much burnt me out and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if I never touched a Welder again...
I still say HRH. Christian is super cool and is a flat out bad*** of a welder. and I bet his prices would be kick ***,too.
I spent the last ten years doing custom Stainless fabrication for Oscar Meyer, Quaker, 3M, local Artist's, and many of our local Restaurants. My Boss knew I was getting burnt out on the stainless work, and when one of our Foremen on the HVAC side of the company retired, they offered his job to me. Since it included a company truck and them paying for the gas, it didn't take me long to accept the position. There is a lot more stress involved with my new job, but its totally different from what I was doing before and that in itself makes it worth it to me...
Dumb question,Since it will be welded on the reverse side why isnt a Mig with steel wire weld sufficient? I did a set an welded the stainless rim from a Ford cap to the repro Sombreros- it held up fine..... Sure it looked bad[on the rear side]- but is that the reason you want it stainless? This car has 15 by 8" Bart- stock car wheels behind the caps.....
