  2. I like going to shows just to hang out with like-minded motorheads. I did get an award for 'best under construction' once! I never enter my cars for awards because I never seem to completely finish one before another project grabs my attention. A.D.D. maybe???

This is true where i live too.The car shows started a project class and handed out trophys. So even if youre not finshed with youre project the price goes up because it's a trophy winner.

I thought jimmy Shine started the whole "Bare Metal" thing with his pickup. But then, he said it was done...

  5. I remember going to shows in the mid to late 60's here in New Zealand
    and seeing unfinished cars.
They even had a trophy for "Best unfinished" vehicle.

Often the build is more exciting than the end product.

i guess my point got lost, I wonder how many cars in that show travel over 2000 miles to get there (unless there on a trailer that is)

When I go to a "Car Show"....I expect to see Show Cars. It seems like alot of these "in progress" rides get some pics in a magazine or online and gain some notoriety, then the owner decides to leave it like it is because now people "Know" his ride.

seriously man, that is an ignorant statement. you should go to LARS someday and see for yourself.

  9. Hot rods evolve, interests change, people change. This is supposed to be a traditional leaning group. The fact is that time alters everything including hot rods. If there is one thing certain, it is that a hot rod makes someone happy. If that someone happens to be stuck in the late 40's or early 50's like me, he knows that lots of these early hot rodders didn't have the cash to "finish" their rides, although their intention was to finish. A car like my 31 is just a time capsule and I am really just a custodian of that time capsule. Evolution has brought my car to this time and place. It would still be resting in that barn for another 50 years if it hadn't been found. It has a new lease on life and gets uesed as intended, the only diff is that I am a 60 year old guy that wasn't fortunate enough to have a car like this when I was 18 years old. So now I have it and can use it to explain how it was for these guys in the old days. And plenty of people "get it" after I explain that the car looks like it does because it evolved over time. Nobody can put on cool, It just has to "be".
    Just my 2 cents

I like seeing unfinished cars at car show. I've been doing this all of my life. I'm always talking to people that tell me they have a whatever kind of car, but it isn't finished yet, needs paint and upholstery. Maybe in the next few years they will get it done. But the kids will be starting school in the fall and there might not be enough money to get it done. What a waste, they are missing out on a lot of fun.

Get it out of the garage and on the street, it doesn't have to be finished to be safe and streetable.

The cool thing about having an unfinished car, is that you don't usually have to stand guard over it.

I been with an unfinished car...as my dad used to say, "Son, some people in life are friendly and somes not." I like both finished and unfinished cars. I like to see each and every one and will stay all day and may even bug the owner if I can find them with a bunch of questions and praise.

As long as the owner is satisfied with his ride I am too. Its his/her ride, his/her money and his/her expression.

I have never built one to please anyone but myself.....and Mrs. Trucked Up. And I enjoy it that way.
