watching that video reminds me of when i sold cars...i was working at a dealership selling cadillac, olds and mazda and the mazda 6 had just come out. these things are basically a rally car for those who haven't driven one. well the 5-spd cars were selling as soon as they got on the lot and we had just gotten one in when a guy comes up to me and asks about it in a thick french accent. i give him the lowdown and we grab the keys and head out for a test drive. part of the test drive takes you down a pretty intense and windy mountain road and i've driven those cars pretty hard down there...knowing the road so well, i could push a car pretty damn hard and i knew just where it would start to lose traction. well the french guy is behind the wheel we're having our salesman to customer banter and i find out that he's a french rally cross champion (wouldn't tell me his name) just as we get to the start of the canyon. as we round the first turn he throws it into 2nd and hits the ****ing floor with the pedal. BOOM!! we're gone... guy took that thing through the canyon like he'd been there a million times before. he somehow coaxed a few extra MPH out around all the turns where had i gone that fast i wouldn't be typing this right now. sitting there in the p*** seat with a professional driver going down a road that i thought i knew was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. about halfway through he asked me if i was getting nervous and i said "HELL no...this is GREAT!!" don't know who that guy was...never got his name or saw him again but i'll never forget that ride with a pro!
The driving technicues while driving on track compared to driving on dirt tracks such as Pike's Peak are like comparing lemons with apples.. They are two different worlds..
