    Hello All

My name's Ed I live in Lancaster CA ( 1 hour north of LA) I'm an electronics tech for the city of Los Angeles.

Cant say I tote the Traditional party line I pretty much love all things mechanical & greasy. I Love the traditional stuff as well as the modern. I must confess that I feel The flat head fords are the most attractive engines ever made. I get a woody for the sixties muscle cars & hot rods. I have a thing for the 67 SS Chavelle ( I will own that car some day) Mind you I do think too much billet or chrome is a bit pointless but I figure It's your car do what floats your boat.

My introduction to wrenching came early. My old man worked construction & was the company's on-site diesel mechanic so my youth was spent helping fix The Cat & John Deere machines of the company. He liked diesels so much that most of our personal cars were also diesels. anyone who has ever worked on these engines knows that diesel smell tends to stick with you and I am not speaking metaphorically here. You smell like diesel for a couple of days!!! Quite the stinky stuff.

First job away from my pop was at the now defunct Chief Auto Parts. This is where I fell in love with the sixties cars. Keep in mind that its the late eighties & these are not the collectibles they are today. They were just old clunkers that my friends drove & I worked on. Since I had the tools (thanks to my old man) I was the group wrench & got plenty of practice with the way my Friends ran their cars. I must say those were some fun times.

I Joined the Marine Corps at 20 & spent 6 years in it's service. Got a heavy dose of electronics & avionics schools & experience and was lucky enough to get a good job when I got out. Wrenching on whatever friend's car needed a hand

After a couple of years out I landed my job with the City of LA. Have a wonderful wife who understands and puts up with my need to tinker & two awesome kids who are chips of the old block.( they are pains in the *** just like I was ) Who keep me on my toes.

I currently don't have a project car to work on but I never run out of friends who needs a hand with a car or bike or lawn mower. Kind of like the guy with a truck & dolly. you always have a buddy who needs a hand

I must say that the HAMB is a good place for info & just good reading . I had been looking to build a tube bender & got some great info on the HAMB. ( I just finished cutting the parts last weekend).

I am working on a "project car " of sorts though. I'm currently cooking up a soapbox racer. Some of you have seen the videos of the San Fernando Valley illegal soapbox federation. If you have not check out the link. http://www.sfvisbf.com/main.html I went to a race about two weeks ago & just had to build one. Nothing like a bunch of grown men being crazy to spark my interest. If you live in the greater Los Angeles area you owe it to yourself to go see one in person. The videos do not do them justice.

Anyway didn't mean to make this a novel but look foreword to Reading the HAMB & maybe getting to know a couple of you

    Best Regards
    Ed
