Left Goodguys Des Moines, on Cruise to Columbus Monday AM. So far we have met so many cool people on the cruise. We've been to the Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville IA, St Louis Car Museum, Old Dog Street Rods then on to the Arch, wow was that a really cool deal. Here are somemore pics for the trip #1 Drive-In somewhere in Eastern Colorado. #2 NB border #3 My roadster @ Tremec transmission booth @ Goodguys Des Moines. #4 V16 SBC @ Speedway museum
Ok, it's been a while since my last post so here goes. Left the arch, pics here, for the worlds largest Ketchup bottle, no really, not kidding, see pics.
It was so great meeting you. I'll see you at the Nats . (maybe Chris will invite his brother to join us .. Wonder what color outfits they will show up in there??? What ever it is it can't top the hotels bar outfits !!!
Nice meeting you as well. I don't think Chris will live that night down anytime soon. I got a room at the hotel you gave me so we're all set> See you there.
Well folks I'm half way through my road trip. Just left Goodguys Columbus. Haven't take any pictures since the Worlds largest Ketchup bottle. So here are a few random pics from along the way. #1 Pick Dodge panel in Silverton. #2 One of my cruising buddies from Des Moines to Columbus. #3 Some where in southern Utah. Man that part of the state was soooo beautiful.
Holy sh*t, I'm back in my home town of Dayton, OH. Yesterday my buddy and I cruised the old stompin grounds. What a shock! My grade school is now an empty lot, my high school an empty lot, the old drive-in where me all cruised is a Rite Aid, my favorite bar a pile of dirt, my old home where I was raised is in bad disrepair, my buddy's old home over grown with weeds and in disrepair, the house where I lived while in college is all run down. Nothing looks the same but the trees and gr***. I was so sad to see it all like that. What great memories I have of all those places. So sad. Oh well movin on to Louisville in a coupe of weeks.
man I wish I was following you!! and the part about going back to your old home town. most times it hurts. I have talked to a guy who still lives in my old town in ill. says its no longer a English speaking town and the houses are all lookin like ****. and I almost went back to look around. glad I didn't now,. I prefer to think its still the little town I grew up in...
Hey John, so good to meet you on the Columbus Cruise...sorry the old home town has changed so much. I'll call you in Louisville. Drive safe. Dale & Elvis
Yep!-----John, the old town is never like it used to be! Now take T.O. for instance, when we moved to Westlake in 1968, the 101 was just 2 lanes until improving it from the valley a little at a time. Enjoying your tour pix, thanks for sharing & have a great time line chasing! Hi to Dale also---(How many tires have you gone thru by now?--HAAA!)
Well it's been close to a week since I posted last. I've toured the old home town with my buddy Don and this past weekend went to the Blue Suede Cruise in Norwalk, OH. It rained like hell all night Friday and the old roadster got soaked like never before, the whole interior, the trunk and everything in it. The cover blew off in the wind. The cruise was just Ok. Lots of cool old g***ers and race cars, but they let all the cars race at what they called "fun runs" anything that ran could run. We had to wait till that **** was over before they let the real race cars run then it was late in the day and most people had left. I think they got that whole deal backwards. The weekend after this it's off to Louisville for the NSRA Nats. Still having email problems between phone and computer, hopefully pictures soon.
Here's some pics, finally. #1 If I remember correctly this was my Grandparents home in West Alexandria, OH. Where my Dad and his brothers and sister were raised. #2 My home town of Dayton, OH, Shot of downtown from the freeway. #3 The Art Ins***ute in Dayton. #4 The Wright brothers, Wright Flyer III, the first plane that they actually took off, flew, landed and did it all over again. They were quoted as saying "this is the first practical airplane ever flown" Pretty cool stuff. Dayton, OH "the birthplace of aviation". We would all be riding the train if it wasn't for the Wright brothers
Here are a few pics from the Blue Suede Cruise #1 Summit Raceway in Norwalk, OH. Man this has to be the nicest drag strip I've ever seen. #2 Just thought this was a *****in 34 sedan with a great chop. #3 John's restored Jim Oddy Austin, really *****in to see this car restored and what a great job. #4 Didn't get the name of this Model A coupe, but it hauled ***, mid 8's if I remember right. #5 Really nice Willys, didn't get name here either. But really cool.
ATTENTION-ATTENTION. My SoCal road tour continues. Off to Louisville Thursday AM, then join the Street Rodder road tour on Sunday to Speedway Motors (again) then to Darrell Mayrobbs, Bo Huffs and then to Bonneville for 2 days. Will keep you posted, hopefully with pictures
Surely you must mean Darrel Mayabb...??? He lives in Arvada, ColoRODo and is a world famous artist... Right now I'm on your end of the country...I'm in Astoria, Oregon, getting ready to run the Columbia gorge and head for Yellowstone... R-
Arrived in Louisville yesterday afternoon. Drove around the grounds and ran into some folks I'd met in Des Moines and on the Goodguy's cruise to Columbus. It's Friday and we just getting ready to head for the fairgrounds. Hopefully I will have some pictures to post later tonight or tomorrow AM. Stay tuned!
