Folks Of Interest SoCal to Austin.....Interstate 10 or 40??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Ian Berky, Mar 16, 2011.

  1. I usually like 40 better myself. traveled both several times and if I don't need to head for the border I always shoot for 40 and drop south when I need to.

I say either way, we took 10 through Texas, NM and Arizona on our road trip last year from Ny to Vegas. Either way will be killer, there is so much to see out there, I dont know why anyone needs to travel abroad when we have so much cool shit here! I cant wait to make another road trip. I wish I was heading out with you, that would be a killer ride with a killer destination!

  3. I second that.

  4. Ian...so if you take the 40....where do you drop south from? just curious...the 40 is about an hour straight north of me (Vega, TX)

Ian, should of told me you need someone to ride shotgun. I am on vacation next week. I could've made the haul with ya brother.

  11. That's the same route I take too. When you drive through the Littlefield/Muleshoe Tx area you're only about 20-30 mins away from here. If you run into any trouble in this area give me PM on here and I'll come find you.

Please don't put down El Paso. If you all would be as informed about El Paso as you are of Juarez, you would know El Paso is one of the safest cities in the country. The people from Juarez would probably not care about your car at all, they all like black, big SUVs and trucks like Expeditions and Tahoes. If you would know more about El Paso you would know it has the top Hispanic engineering school in the country and the second best Hispanic finance school in the country also. And all this less than 500 feet from the border! It has a great car scene and wonderful people. Also probably one of the places you to authentic Mexican food. And I also get to see one of the best sunset anywhere everyday on my way home from work. But obviously El Paso is not SAFE enough for you and your car.

Go either way! It's long drive! The first time I drove across Texas I realized how big that SOB is! At least its not 100+degrees outside this time of year!

  14. I just drove from San Francisco back on 40 and the old 66 stops are really cool, especially Gallup, NM. Also no check points... I would go 100 out of the way to stay away from El Paso even just driving through. Some crazy shit down on the border these days...

What's all this shit talk about EP?
I've been there dozens of times. Crossed the border on almost every trip. The only thing you need to avoid is the water in Juarez... I've never had any trouble or problem with the people there. Hell, I've never even seen anything suspicious.
Detroit and New Orleans are far more dangerous, but I've never had any trouble in either of those places either.
Stop talking smack about EP unless you have a real life first hand documented bad expirence to share with everyone

Moonman29, Easy brother....... Nobody is trying to put down El Paso here!! And It's not a question about being man enough, But about the safest, easiest road in case of a breakdown, check points maybe? ;) one should take .... that's all!!
BTW, I have a 14 gallon gas tank that takes me about 120 miles...I think?
i have minimal space in the trunk for a gas can....And tools?!?!?!
And fuck no im not loading my back white upholstered seat with luggage and crap!!! it's all going in the trunk!!! El paso is gonna be just fine man!!! You love it there? Good!! A LOT of people hate LA and i don't let it ruin my day!!! I love it here......... Sometimes!! ;)

    BTW, I know i'm man enough!!!!

Sorry about that Ian Berky, it was not meant so much at you, you were just asking for advice or suggestions, but my rant was mostly for those that did say negative stuff about EP. But my offer still stands if you decide to come down my way. I could show you around and get you some good MEXICAN food. Also, I would love to see your car. And if you do decide to come down my way, you can count on me for any help. PM me and Ill get you my contact info.

Take 40. You're already on the road for ~24 hours (give or take) so what's one more hour of driving at that point? At least with 40 you have many things to stop and see like Meteor Crater, the teepee motel at Holbrook NM, etc. The only thing 10 has is the Burma Shave ads, lol. You can haul some serious ass across west and central Texas on 10 though.

Made my first trip from Phoenix to Austin last June on I-10 in my '56. It was an easy drive, with plenty of places to stop. Atleast every 50 or 60 miles there was a place to fill up or take a break until you get to Texas where the stops are further apart. I was taking it easy since I just bought the truck sight unseen and had no problems til the trans acted up 100 miles from home. Lots of HAMBers along the way offered up assistance if I needed it. See you in a couple weeks!
