Is there a way to delete old topics (like shows/races p***ed) in the social groups if you're the Mod of the group? I know this stuff takes up space somewhere but I didn't want to bother y'all with the deletes if its not worth it? If we didn't post pics if an event I thought I would clean up a bit.
    Thanks

If I'm not mistaken (and I occasionally am:rolleyes:), the text parts of the messages posted here don't take up a lot of space on anybody's servers. And I think a lot of members here like the idea of these posts being archived here for future reference.

The photo's can be another story though depending on how they're hosted and linked to the forum. Large jpeg images (1600x1200 pixels or larger) can make for some relatively bigger file sizes, especially if the images are saved at the highest quality level with the least amount of compression. For web display an image size of 640x480 or 800x600 pixels is usually large enough and with a bit of compression applied the file size can be as little as 10% of what the original full size image file was.

Then there's the matter of how you're posting your images. If you're uploading them to Photobucket or some other image hosting service they may have some restrictions on maximum image size, especially if they're hosting the images for free. You may be uploading a full size 8MP image to them but they may be automatically downsizing it to something like 800x600 pixels to store on their servers. And if you close your account or delete images to make room for new ones the deleted images will no longer appear in your older forum posts.

Then there's the option of uploading your pics to the H.A.M.B.'s servers directly and linking to them thru the thumbnail pics in the post. Which has always seemed to me like a pretty generous offer from Ryan. Because a lot of folks upload a lot of pictures and many of them are a lot larger than they need to be for web display. And this is where I think we really need to be concerned with the storage space needed to archive all the the great photos hosted here, though it doesn't seem to be a problem yet. But I'm still a little amazed that there isn't a maximun size limit of maybe 1600x1200 pixels for images uploaded to the H.A.M.B.'s servers.
