Hey guys I am putting together my first build and debating what I should do for motor mounts on a budget. I can fab solid ones for next to nothing, will I regret it? Any suggestions are welcome, and if I run solid motor mount should the transmission mount be the same?

If you use the bell housing motor plate method solid front mounts will work ok.
Race cars are done this way.
If you use solid front mounts only, the transmission should be rubber or urethane mounted.

Had some on the engine in my avatar. Hit the wall about 10 years ago, and it broke two of the three tabs off of the block. Luckily, the block itself was not damaged. I found one of the broken tabs and took the whole setup to a welder friend of mine. After a lot of pre-heating, he welded the mounts back together. (The second broken tab he got by going out into his field, looking at a bunch of junk farm machinery, and breaking a proper looking tab off of an old tractor.) We cooled everything off slowly, and everything has held since then. I must have held a torch on the area for about 4 hours that day. So no, don't use solid motor mounts. If you must, run one and a stock mount on the other side.

I like 'em! I'm using a set on my current '56 Chevy with a rubber tranny mount and had them on a '68 Dodge Charger years ago with a rubber tranny mount and never had a problem.

    They are annoying.

Anybody want a pair for a SBC, I'll give them to you for shipping cost, or you can pick them up.

I ran solid mounts (engine, not trans) when I had a '53 F-100 with 327 SBC, Turbo 400. Never had a problem, nor noticed vibration. I drove it from Oklahoma to Chicago.

This. Are they the right choice for you? Only you can decide that. I love 'em, have run 'em on just about every car I own. But then, I hate hyd. cams, power brakes, and the tallest rear gear I have ever run was a 3.91. If you define yourself as a "cruiser", you will hate them.

It's totally doable, but I don't see a big advantage to it. OEM motor mounts shouldn't brake the bank and you'll never have to worry about them.
