Solid mount Mustang II rack - again

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mike in Tulsa, Oct 16, 2010.

  1. Hey guys. Got another question about this Mustang II rack. Here's the link to my earlier post...

    Solid mount Mustang II rack

The way i figure it is that since the spacer inside the rubber bushing is longer than the mount on the rack - the rubber part is supposed to expand and that's what makes it rubber mounted" Is that right? It looks like the rack could move on the rubber part. I know I have it in backwards in the picture but I need to mount the rack directly to the crossmember for space.

This whole thing just doesn't feel right. The rack is super solid but I'm afraid it could move around. What do you think?

ever look under a stock MUSTANG II?
i think that the rubber just helps insulate the chassis from vibrations from the suspension.. I have seen race cars with the rack mounted solid (with aluminum bushings in the place of the rubbers)

check out a stock Mustang II and replicate it..

I think your question was answered in your other post on this question. In this photo, is the wheel hanging or with floor pressure? Be careful letting it hang or you will snap your stabilizer heims off.

  4. I'm not concerned about solid mounting it. My concern is the flange on the rubber bushing not being tight against the rack. It looks like the rack could slide back and forth on the rubber bushing.

Same on mine, Exactly the same as yours, I tightened the crap out of it, does not seem to move anywhere, hooked up the PS to it and tested it vigorously. Did a short stint with it and it seems good. Interested in feed back on your post as well. I had all the same issues as your, spacers as well. Who's unit are you using?

  6. It's a TCI. I'm gonna run it but I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the replies.

  7. if i remember correctly, when you reverse to the correct side, the bushing the rubber is flush with the inner sleeve on the crossmember side(little teeth towards the cmember); the opp side with the longer, loose flap is supposed to be tightened in on itself under the flat washer. use a little screwdriver to push the ends under the washer. you should end up with a nice little rubber ring; then tighten the begeezes out of it. we have put them on at least 6 in the last 4 months... always worked good for us.

Hey mike, isn't the bushing supposed to go in from the back side? It looks like your bushings are in backwards.
