A lot of the guys building home built aircraft use the Facet ones and I haven't heard any complaints form them,
Bought the same pump from Speedway. Wired to it's own fuse in the box. Checked circuit with a test light before wiring pump in, all was good. Wired pump in, turned ignition key to "on" position for maybe 1.5 seconds at the most. Sounded like an Uzi. I figured it's dry and would quiet down with fuel in it. Filled the fuel tank, tried to fired the truck FOR THE FIRST TIME. Pump was dead. Very disapointing. Called Speedway, told the tech my problem and he said, "Sounds like you got a bad one, let me get you to Customer Service". No wiring questions, no trouble shooting, nothing. Customer Service, is sending me a pre-paid UPS lable to send it back and was covering shipping on the new one! My point is they know these are junk. We've all tried to return electrical stuff before (at the local autoparts, not Speedway, I should have been more specific). First thing they want to do is blame you for it's failure or tell you up front they wont let you return electrical items. They didn't even put up a fight. I got a Carter from Summit. I wont trust that little pump out on the road if it couldnt even make it out of the shop.
That is Speedway's customer service policy, not an admission that the item is junk. There are few pumps of any description that like to run dry. You ran it dry, destroyed it, and now you're dissing Speedway for offering to replace it for you at their cost. Tough customer
It couldn't take a check of it's opperation for 1 second? It said in the instructions to check it. Who's never run out of gas either? I'm not the only person in this thread to dis this pump. In fact I searched the HAMB to see if this was a common problem with this pump before I even called Speedway. Thats how I found this thread. I told Speedway I wired it and put power to it dry for a second to check it and he didn't tell me I ruined it. Wow. You forget to take your Meds today?
I just replaced the Speedway one which died after about 250 miles. I concur with JUNK ! I'm surprised Speedway would sell it - I usually like theis stuff.
Thats all I'm sayin. I like Speedway and get stuff from them you cant find elsewhere. It was just too easy. I dont want to take the chance on breaking down somewhere. What If I had to leave the truck? Even for 30 minutes? I come back and all 6 of my strombergs (real one's not the re-pops) are gone or worse, the whole truck. A break down can happen because of a number of things, not just this POS fuel pump. But, why take a chance on a part I'm already unsure of.
That is a reasonable argument you make. My only issue with your earlier post was the ***umption that because Speedway replaced the pump 'no questions asked' they must know it is a **** item. Sure there are plenty of guys on this thread that agree with you. There are also plenty that have used these pumps for decades without a problem. You'd probably get a similar mix of experiences and opinions if you started a similar thread about Chev V8s. Would that make all Chev V8s pieces of ****? I am using one of these pumps on my yet to hit the road 28. I'm sure I will soon have an opinion about that pump. It works at the moment. I'll probably buy a spare to carry just in case. And, no, I didn't forget my meds. I just like to see a sensible and reasoned argument based on fact. Pete
Fair enough "Striper". Maybe I jumped the gun a bit. It was going to be the first time we fired the motor and I was really disapointed. Sorry about the meds crack.
No problem. I know about the first fire up blues. I fired mine for the first time about 2 weeks ago. Engine was fine. Clutch no good. The body is now off the ch***is again, the motor and box are sitting on the shed floor and I had to cut all my new wiring. I understand your pain. Pete
