with all the border security going on here, you'd think some enterprising fellow would have a paint mfg operation down south.

Seriously, technology will catch up/the market will adapt and we'll all be using water-based paints.

    Here is a link I found:http://www.driveneutral.org/blog/autobody/

It states that the changes will start in TWO areas in Californication in 2009! It also states that at least one auto manufacture company will not switch to water base until 2010.

Hopefully this will not be a nationwide thing any time soon.

When paint is outlawed, only outlaws will have paint.

    I can't stand this EPA ********.

  9. Just as a point of clarity here - the EPA does not legislate laws into being. Only the local, state, and federal governments can make the laws. This means that someone who is supposed to be your representative in the legislative branch of your government introduced the bill and / or voted on it (if they were present for that session). The idea for and verbiage of the law was most likely written by the EPA and then introduced by a sympathetic member of the legislature.

So what does this mean for companys like HOK? Are they just going to close the doors? Seams like this would put alot of manufactures out of buisness. I do a bit of airbrushing and I have tried the water base paints like Auto-Air and I think they **** compaired to the iso's. I have also noticed it's getting harder to find Krylon enamels in the bomb can at the local Fredy's and K-Mart, I see alot of water based bomb can stuff on the shelfs these days.

people are always scared of change, but in reality it wont happen "fully" until there are some great quality waterbased products. Most of the bodyshops Ive worked at have a lifetime warranty on bodywork and paint, and there is no way they would spray something on your car that isnt high quality, can you imagine the warranty issues if the paint fell off all the cars they did in just a few years? I talked to a friend who is a Dupont rep and he told me that the water based part of "waterborne" paint is just the transfer agent, whats left on the car is the same product as a solvent based paint. Kinda scary painting over some fresh metal work with it though huh?

So, for the last 10 years , everytime I hear from my paint rep that there has been a price increase, it's because of the EPA regs.

I guess paint should dramatically drop because they are all going to be water based, huh....?

I was told that this is only going to possibly take place in Cali. and not rally anywhere else. so guys I wouldnt worry to much. It could be just B.S. to try to get people to hurry up and buy alot of materials due to sales being down.

    What he said...

Also, we were told that Canada is already having problems adapting due to the temp/weather conditions that prevail. If they really want this then some major tax credits ought to be in order for shops that need to upgrade their booths and such. It is after all for the "good" of the "people", right?
