here are some pics of what i am working on this week. fiat topolino sheet metal repair. started by making the pass lower 1/4 / dog leg panel. made in 1 piece, just one weld seam. i slit the inner area at the bottom rocker union, formed the radius then tig welded the seam back up. should have more progress on this one in the near future. need to make a new cowl area, spare tire well and the driver side lower 1/4 patch

a little more progress on the anglia

started to pattern whats left of the spare tire well on the rear.

transferred to a 37 inch 18 gauge steel disk

after the first set of shrinks on the power hammer

quick pass on the hammer with the plannishing dies

then back to shrinking to start pulling up the lip to meet the rear of the body

still a long way to go, but only got an hour to put in on this part before i headed home from the shop

got the spare tire well all shaped up, still some fine tuning and plannishing to do before it is 100% but looks good so far.

Wow! That spare tire well is awesome. Definitely takes a good understanding of sheet metal and how it reacts to produce that. Nice.

Could you share how you made the inner lip in this?

    Thanks

it will be tough to explain via text, instead of in person or a video. but here it i goes, from the flat surface of the lower 1/4 to go inward for the first part of the inner lip area is all stretch. so you lay out the shape of the curve on the panel, then begin to linear stretch the lip over. after that you will have a curved 90* on the radius of the door jamb. then you need to bring part of that lip back up to begin to make the J shape that goes in the door opening. so since you linear stretched to get the first 90, you need to shrink back the edge to get it back to a 90 back in the other direction. in this case i used a kick shrinker. so after some shrinking you have a Joggle or Z shaped panel. you get the last part brought over again to finish the J shape. since the lips are getting smaller each time since you are moving the lines you are working on outward it is hard to use power equipment on them. so the step of making the J is more stretch, i used kick stretcher to work that back out. there is some fine tuning to that will need done, i use home made T dollies to do that and a body hammer. i hope that helps. if i not i can make another one for demonstration purposes and show the steps

99 percent of the work on this skin was on the wheel. we did use the power hammer a little to just raise up a weird spot that developed in one spot. but everything else was done in the wheel

hem edges turned, ready to put the inner lid in the skin

    pretty much all buttoned up

also been working on a roll cage for a local customer for his land speed blown flat head 29 roadster

I have got to remember to not open this thread. Every time I think I have developed some metal talents I see these pictures and realize I am a complete hack. Crap, and I was having a good night till now.

    Magnificent work sir.
