Customs Some one please

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by indygasser, May 7, 2011.

  1. Larry, so would the gas classes up to 78' such as I-K/Gas still be considered a gasser so to speak or would it fall more under the comp or modofied classes?

Toward the end the blown Gassers/Street Roadsters (AA/G, BB/G) were in Comp Eliminator along with Fuel Dragsters, Gas Dragsters, Funny Cars and blown Altereds. These gas classes got dropped first.

The unblown Gassers/Street Roadsters were in Modified Eliminator along with unblown Altereds, Modified Production, and Modified Compacts. I guess all of these went away with when Modified Eliminator was eliminated.

"In the day..." a 10% setback was a gasser, and a 25% setback was an altered. If I remember correctly the percentage was of the wheelbase as measured from the front spindle to the farthest forward spark plug. So if it is a 100" wheelbase, your farthest forward spark plug should be at or just under 10". Altitude? the bottom of the rocker panel/fenders/running boards (or whatever) was not supposed to be higher than the centerline of the wheels. Crank Pulley had to be no more than 24" from the ground.

Why worry about higher than that? Weight transfer. Drag cars now are low as can be. in the 50's and 60's, the crappy tires forced various attempts at gaining traction. Stock class was limited to a 7" wide tire!
