Our '50 Plymouth must really bring out the rudeness/stupidity in people. Some of you may remember the thread about the guy at the car show this past summer having a compelete melt-down over how our '50 was a waste of time, POS, watse of money, etc...all in front of the spectator crowd without even knowing the owners were standing there.

Then we had some guy at an intesection yell out to us "send that POS to the scrap yard!!"

Well i think someone finally took the icing on the cake yesterday. My boyfriend and I took the car to the local diner in my town for breakfast yesterday morning. The parking lot was full so we parked across the street in a small dirt lot in front of an old barn. We figured it would be much better because the car would be alone in a nice lot by itself. No one to touch it or bump into it with car doors, etc. Well we ate breakfast and came out and there was a guy walking around the car. So we walk over to the edge of the road and we're waiting for traffic. The guys has no clue we're standing there watching him and he's circling the car staring in the windows and checking it out....we're cool with that....stare all you want. Then, all of a sudden, he opens the drivers door and climbs right in!!!:confused::eek:

Now, keep in mind i'm not normally someone who keeps their mouth shut in situations like this.... but i was speechless at this point. I couldn't believe my eyes. the guy is now laying across the front seat rumaging around staring at the dash, etc. This guy is probably in his 60's. He's not young and he should know better. So we walk over and my boyfriend is standing at the drivers door and the guy still hasent a clue. Then he realizes we're standing there staring at him and says" Oh, is this your car?" ......and yes he's still in the car at this point. Then gets out and we reply "yes....it is." And then he says "well i was just wondering how you keep the chrome on the dash so nice?". The reply from my boyfriend was "i have a great girlfriend...." as he stares at the guy. The guy started walking away and said "oh well its really nice; mustve cost a fortune to restore it"

Is it just me or do some people have some fricken nerve? As car builders on this forum we all realize the amount of time and money invested in the cars we enjoy. Even as a kid; i knew not to touch anything that didnt belong to me......let alone open the door and climb in someone's car!!!! If someone asked and wanted to sit in the car, or a kid wanted to get in; we're cool with that. We are pretty laid back easy going people and we love to share the car with others. I think we all kind of feel that way here. We all own a peice of history and we're caretakers...its our responsibility to share the cars, educate people, and preserve them for years to come. There's nothing more that we love than to see people staring at the car and complimenting it. it's our trophy for a job well done.....but this just crossed the line.

any similar experiences here? I'm still a bit blown away that someone would have the nerve to do such a thing

Should have said. My boyfriend is a hitman and when he killed the last guy who went into our car without permission we sold his organs on the black market. You would be surprised what a decent kidney goes for theses days. It has to be enough to redo a grill at least.

i really think he was. We don't keep any valuables in the car besides her display boards so we wernt concerned about him stealing stuff. and if he wanted to steal chrome and such....he would have to work at it to get it off that car. He was also standing across the street from the busy diner and right next to a very busy road.He seemed pretty harmless and not the sketchy type at all. Just an older guy admiring the car who got a little too over the top/ Sometimes i think we wish the car would gather some of "Christine's" personality from that movie and she could pound these people into the pavement when we're not looking

I had a guy get in my car at an indoor carshow, stepped over the rope aruond it, opened the door and hopped in. All this with me on the other side of the car. I heard the familiar" click clikc" of the door latch and was like WTF? So I walk around and there he was, sitting there. I was speechless, but came to my senses and told him to get out. He said he wanted his picture taken in it which I'm cool with if you ask. Don't think he even apologized.

Found three teenage girls sitting in my high end hot rod at a car show one time.

There is no shortage of whack jobs and looney tunes out there - old cars seem to attract them.....

lack of "home training" or simply consider themselves "doesn't apply to me".....

i don't have any patience for either kind, but the second kind really piss me off.

i went to the Wheels On Fire show at the North Charleston Fire Museum Saturday; (sorry, no pics) and while there were cars there that i felt had no business in a car show PERIOD, i didn't stand there and rant and rave over it. just pass 'em by. why piss on another guys parade?

I went to the Dallas autorama a few years ago to see the Winfeild shop truck before the restoration. I was standing there watching Gene speak to a couple who had brought there kid. This kid was about 6 maybe 7 years old and the decided to walk over to the truck and hop on the running boards like a trampolene. I was speechless as the kids mother stood there, pointed out what her child was doing, and laugh. I can't remember a point in my youth were even touching someone elses property was acceptable. Sign of the times I guess but that kid deserved an ass whipping.

I was at morning meet with a few friends. I look up and one guy is embeded in my buddies fresh painted car. Body fully leaning against the side and elbow embeded in the roof. He no sooner goes over to wake the guy up, I hear a car door slam. I look over and here is some (*&^%$ getting out of my car.

I go over to him and he says oh its my first time I had no idea. I said do you always walk up to cars and get it.

    I don't get it

Clearly you need to move away from those New Englanders to a place where no one is rude or unfriendly and everyone is respectful. Like NYC for instance! :D

A long time ago (in the 80's) the NSRA street rod nats were in OKC and we were parked next to a beautiful 34 Ford sedan. Black on black with smoothie glass running boards. We really didn't know the guy other than casual "how do ya do's". The guy was off looking around and up walks this "hefty" woman wearing a moo-moo, with a cig hanging off her lip. She has 4 kids in tow and one of them has a pair of baseball cleats. No joke, cleats. Get the picture yet?

The kid sees this 34 and starts a dead run for it, while momma belts out "Jump up there and look in the window". I bolted out of my chair and screamed " NO!!!!!! " I though the kid was gonna piss himself. His mom looked at me in disgust and that was all it took.

I proceeded to tear her a new one. I bet he never does it again.

  19. My solution to these issues ... I always roll up my windows and lock my doors (always includes car shows too, I had an ashtray stolen out of a car at a show before) and paint your car with Tremclad/Rustoleum (like I did) so you won't feel the need to park away from others (along with not worrying about door dings and getting "keyed" I also have no fear of stone chips, bird crap and gravel roads too). I have also installed some anti-theft devices to minimize the possibility of someone breaking in and driving off.

I now drive my car everywhere (and I mean EVERYWHERE) and I also park it anywhere with virtually no worries other than the cost of another tank of fuel and the lack of seat belts (which I will be installing in the near future).

I do get people that ask when I am going to paint it (my car appears to be either primer or faded original paint) and I simply reply "it is painted". I don't get offended because I didn't build this car for them and I really don't expect these people to understand why I do things the way I do.

Let me finish by saying this, I actually have had a really nice car before and I can honestly say I am enjoying this one WAY more.

Drive it ... lock it, and don't take other peoples opinions too seriously ... your car isn't what they would have picked? ... who cares?

Not everyone wants to drive a 38 ford sedan painted like an easter egg... thats why this site exists... screw those people at a show talking smack.. remember this... they might say good things or bad things but at least they are talking bout ya.. and laugh at them and say well at least i didnt blow my 401k building mine... or sorry i dont write checks for someone to build my stuff.. laugh at em... remember who cares if anyone likes what you got or hates it... its build the way you wanted it and driven everywhere and not a trailer queen... thats something to be said alone in itself...

First - You were well within reason to slap some sense into that individual.

Second - Folks, we now live in a world where people have a sense of entitlement. I want it therefore you should give it to me or I "deserve" it. Too many parents wanting to be "friends" with their children. BORNTOLOZE has it right. Insure it, put valuables in the trunk and lock it up. Other than that - Enjoy it for what it is and if not - don't drive it.

I had my coupe at a local so-cal car show and had a great time. At the end of the day when I went to take off I couldn't get my key in. I soon realized that there was a broken off key stuck in the ignition. Not mine for sure.

  26. The last 2 old cars I had, '64 Galaxie and '65 Belair were nice enough cars but with original paint. I'd have them parked at local shows and more than once came back to some kid SITTING on the hood or fender.

They responded well to GET THE F*** OFF OF MY CAR! WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER WITH YOU? I had one parent get pissy with me, but what the hell.. it was MY car.

"He was also standing across the street from the busy diner and right next to a very busy road".

Most cars get stolen in broad daylight right out from under the owners nose, out of busy parking lots-including Hot Rod meets/shows. Hit when you least expect it.
If I find someone laying on my seat, my first thought is that they're attempting to hot wire my car. I'm grabbing them by the ankles and yanking them out. I'd be so fired up, they'd probably get a boot in the chops before they knew what hit them. (I envision the scene in American Grafitti where Toad is trying to hot wire back his 58 Impala)

My first question to these people would be "would you walk up to someone's front door, open it and just walk in and sit down without expecting retaliation"?

As others mentioned; it's the self entitled disrespectful attitude of I can do what I damn well please and the world owes ME a living.

Remember; we're dealing with 2nd and 3rd generation welfare and gang bangers these days.
