It sure would be interesting to see how this deal is carried out. I can't imagine the winning bidder not coming to his senses and bailing out.

You know... I've just started reading 'Christine' and I think maybe that is what started these mopar guys spending WAY too much for not much of a car. The most expensive street rod was over $1mil. Why? Because the crazy mopar guys will spend that much.

p.s. one of my best friends is "a crazy mopar guy".

Ya know, I'm one of them "crazy Mopar guy's" but I wouldn't spend that kind of money (presuming I HAD that much money) on that car because it's not my "thing". I think its ugly.

That being said... If you were to check on the numbers thing, I'd bet that convert is a rare dog. Add to that that the car is sitting up on the springs (as in not laying on the gound with broken springs/body structure) should mean the undercharage must not be a rust disaster, pretty unusual for that vintage Mopar, esspecially since its a convert. Should there be a number matching Hemi in it, and you have a valueable car. The guys that are into the number thing would fall in love with it. You know, a seat for every *** and an *** for every seat? Let them have their fun, and we can have ours and the world will be a better place.

I see guys asking $8,000 for a rusted pickup cab with no floors mounted on a ragged *** frame with questionably suspension and a wore out motor. I wouldn't buy that either. So whats the difference? Just perception about what is cool. Gene

Check out all of the questions the seller got. People love this car, I on the other hand think it's a turd. My buddy likes fat chicks. He says,"Hey, check out that hot chick over there." I say,"I can't see her, there's a fat girl in the way." So, the moral of the story is if we all liked the same thing, it'd be a pretty boring world.

I recognize your car from that avatar. ;) I've seen '57 Chevy converts that sold for $150K and no one bats an eye, even though they're just common everyday worker cars, Chevrolets. AND they're easy to restore!!

When a Chrysler letter car convertible goes for that money, everyone guffaws and their eyes bug out even though there may only be five known cars in existence and it's an upscale car to begin with. This is a funny hobby sometimes. :)

Daddy-O, you can have the car with a bad check as long as you leave your daughter as collateral. lol

Don't know why this particular one brought so much. It not the D500, which had the hemi as one option. There were only 3,000 D500's made between 57-59 but over 30,000 hardtops and convertible Lancers made in 1957 (not the D500 option). Could just be its a "fin" car and a convert. Barett/Jackson auction had one bid up to $38k but did not meet the reserve. You brown baggers gotta face it, them Mopars are bringing big buck now. :D

  27. Well, the triple black one was billed as a one-of-one the way it's optioned and was bid to well over 100K at least once. Thats probably why the other one went so high. But guys in Sweden will buy these things and fix them, in fact they'll fix cars sometimes that are so rusty even guys in Florida or NY wouldn't think they could be fixed. I know, we sent three ****py Mopar ragtops over there last summer - the two I sold went for a combined total of about $5000.

I know where there's a Dodge like this with no doors, hood or motor. I wonder if I could get a couple grand out of it... not hard to find the doors, hood or motor.

A friend told me about a D500 'vert a guy has that is rotted right in half and he turned down 1200 for it, this summer. I think he's nuts... probably remembers driving it back there.

Oh yeah.. The 300 was a Chrysler, not a Dodge, and only Dodge didnt keep figures by body style, model or engine... the others all did.

Well, $10,000 is more than we all would pay for that car, but how many '57 Dodge convertibles do you see for sale under $20,000??? I'll bet not too many, if any at all.
I will tell you that rare cars are getting harder and harder to find in unrestored condition. With s**** metal prices holding pretty high the last two years a lot of stuff has been lost. You will be seeing prices hit much higher than that in the next few years, I will promise you that.

One thing that EVERYBODY forgets. The one person paid $10,000 for the car, but look at the bidder list. He was not the only one who was willing to pay $$$ for the car. You have to remember that an ebay auction sells for the highest amount the SECOND high bidder is willing to pay. There were two people willing to pay $10,000 for the car and another who went up over $4,000. So it is worth $10,000+ seeing there are multiple people who think the car is worth that price.

I'd pay it. I love fin era Mopars and a '57 ragtop? To a ForwardLook fan, that's a real prize, no matter what shape it's in. If that was a '57 Chevy, no one would question it. I'm surprised anyone's actually shocked by that price.

You know what they say. "Mopars are for people with more money than brains."

Guess that makes me the the dumbest person in the world then (hehe).
