Hey everyone, just sayin hi. The name's Derrick, 19 years old (born 40 years too late) from BC Canada. This seems like a pretty sweet place. I've always been into old cars and old music.. and basically old anything. My first was a '73 Dart********, then I saw American Grafitti and got into rods and kustoms. As much as this is making me seem like a giant poser, I'm really not. Cars are my life... although not as big of a part as I'd like. Music is my life as well. Oldies mostly. Last year I bought Poncho's '53 Chevy 4 dr and I've been crusin that since. I'm totally not here to tell anyone anything, I'm here to learn. I'll post some more pictures of the ride in a bit. Thanks everyone. Have a good one.

OK two-ten...I'll be the first to welcome you to this place, but ya gotta explain the 40 years too late comment...I have it on good authority it's been 54 years since the REAL fiftes...that'd place you in 1964...is that where you'd want to be and miss the fiftes altogether?
    So, what? School, college, work?
    FWIW, welcome...nice Chevy.

Well, I was born in '84, so I would like to be born early '40s. I graduated from highschool just over a year ago. I've been working at a gas station pumping gas for..3 years. Before that, I worked at another gas station cleaning the shop. I'm really good friends with a guy who works in the shop at the station now who wants to open his own shop, so i might go work with him when that happens. I feel like I should go back to school some time though. I just don't know what for yet. [IMG] Thanks [IMG]

    Yeah 40studedude,
    He wasn't born yesterday.... [IMG]

Welcome aboard. It sounds like you are a respectful and polite fella with an appetite for learning about the old machines.
I think people respect that here.

Take a very strong hint here 210--GO BACK TO SCHOOL...it's the best thing you can do for yourself.Find something that interests you, really trips your trigger, take some courses toward it...go back to school.

Time does fly by fast...and it goes faster as you get older...may not sound very true rite now...but trust me...get an education...and a degree.

Yep, Von T, 210 sounds like a very respectful youngster...which are few and far between these days.

Hey 210 welcome!! If I were you I'd go to a tech school and go for the auto tecnology course, since you worked in gas stations and were around cars a lot and you want to go work for a friend in his new shop, I think you have answered your own question as what to do next. As 40StudeDude said get a degree and you wont have any regrets. My youngest son just graduated from tech school in July and now works at a large dealership and is making a really good paycheck. He didn't know what to do at first either, but with dad and another brother real heavy into rods and customs and another brother a salesman at a big Chrsyler dealership he just followed suit and is very happy he did. Now we're just one big happy car nut family that gets along better than we ever have!! Kinda nice !! So good luck in what ever you decide to pursue, but do it now while you're still young an can remember what ya learned before that ole CRS hits when ya get older!! Bill [IMG]

I started out doing metal fab work. Later got into sales
and then wholesale. That desk isn't the best, but my back
don't hert. The office is'nt what it seems. Do what you love. The key is don't do it for money.

I don't think I'll be learning how to paint any time soon. I have some sort of problem with wanting instant results [IMG] From the sounds of it, I should be going back to school. I'm gonna wait and see what happens with the shop deal then see what happens. I guess I don't really have to know what I'm gonna be doing for the rest of my life right now. Anyways, thanks for the nice things being said. You all seem like cool people. Thanks. Derrick.

53 210 sounds like your getting a lot of good advice and I guess I would like to put in my 2 cents. From your intro you sound like a level headed guy that respects others, those are good traits to have, and they will take you far in life and your job search. You must decide for your self what goals you want to pursue.I agree with the others, get an education, this will only make your life better in the long run.Read up on everything that interest you and then look for a job to get some real world experience. You will do just fine.Enough of the real world stuff--now welcome to the HAMB--A good place to hide from the real world! Welcome.

We're all just going to pound it into your head till you agree to go back now! Like Jan, which means you need to head to the local community college NOW and register for winter term. Do it now. Every semester you wait, it will be harder to go back. You can not wait for the other guy to open his shop. Might not ever happen. If it does, there is no reason you can't work full time and go to school a couple of nites a week. If I can do it, you can. Full time job and college at nite for 8 years.

Besides the tech type classes that you might enjoy, make sure you take some business classes as well. This will make you more marketable.

oh yeah, welcome to the HAMB. I bet you didn't know your mother hung out here, huh??? [IMG]

BTW: great intro, included photo, A+

Howdy..... This place is the best as far as learnin goes. But I gotta say that the longer you wait on school the harder it is to get motivated. I learned the hard way. Don't stress to much, you will naturally do whats best for you. Welcome.Everyone I have come in contact with on this board has been really cool, I dig it. I'm pretty new here myself. Party on! Come on in, Kid!!

Don't worry about the late B-cay. I was born a little early myself. I am only supposed to be about 22 right now.

Somehow it got all screwed up and now I am stuck in my late thirties. Maybe they will just let me die a little late to make up for it. [IMG]
