I am doing my best to concentrate on reinventing my company due to the sluggish economy, but not spending enough and or more time out in the shop building a Hot Rod or Kustom is about to drive me friggin insane.SOMETHING HAS GOT TO GIVE FOR CHRIST SAKES.I did not sign on for this ****
take a deep breath walk away from the paper work for awhile and chill go back to it after you mellow out , do the best you can , and dont let it get to you , most of us are broke hot rodders to ,
went out and cranked up the 66 Falcon the other night, just to be sure it WOULD start in this freaking weather... yeah yeah i know, but this is SOUTH Carolina, not South DAKOTA. and as far as the other issue? i've been trying to sell these cars for months.... not because i WANT to. but it might come to filling them with my worldly possessions and parking them at my in-laws house if something POSITIVE doesn't come across. there's too many folks hanging by the fingernails these days. short answer is the get people back to work or into better jobs. i haven't bought anything automotive except what i HAD TO HAVE to keep my daily going since last year.
I feel your pain man. I've been unemployed for 3yrs after putting in 28 for a company that downsized. Was old enough to get my pension and health insurance. I didn't have the years or age to get full pension so when they finished their little work sheet I was screwed.I was two years short on service and four on age. This year they're doing and the rest of the employees and me a favor and going up $200 a month on family coverage. I'm afraid to spend any money.Sold my Harley and some parts I had. The HAMB is my crutch for my car addiction.Jobs are double tough to get when you're 61 and have no skills. Still looking.
Hey BBob I've been unemployed since 78, surived the BS, many good and bad times, yet I'm still here promoting the "doing your own way" thing. And while it ain't the easiest thing to do building a business and keeping it successful and having time for the family and personal interests, there's nothing else better than being able to say you are a self made man. With that said, in order to reinvent your company sometimes you gotta reinvent yourself. Now go...burn the oil.
x2 on the deep breath... Two years ago I was at wits end. My business was failing, My wife and I were having serious problems - life ****ed!!! I wasn't sure what to do or which way to turn. Fast forward two years. I have made several changes to the business and am now turning a good profit. I'm doing it in a ****ty economy and at sales levels that are 35% lower than they were 3 years ago. Wife and I worked things out and are going on 18 years this spring. I also went from almost having to sell all my toys to owning a couple of cars I never thought I could afford - a '34 Ford and a deuce coupe. I NEVER COULD HAVE IMAGINED ANY OF THIS 2 YEARS AGO!!!!!! Take a deep breath - **** it up and keep on keepin' on!!! Good luck brother
I've been out since August of '09.. I spend most of the mornings scrounging the net looking for work.. I've had lots of interviews and "we'll give ya a call when something happens"... Thank God for the H.A.M.B. and everybody here to help me forget how bad it is out there... And I mean that guys! Thank you!!
X3 on the deep breath and the take a break! I my self have been "marginally employed" for the last 2 years. Thank god the wife works too. But back to you my friend. Step back from re-inventing for a day or two, maybe even go fishing or something. Come back to it with fresher eyes. Brain storm some ideas with your buddies and/or employees. You never know where a really good idea will come from. Many of the craziest ones are the ones that work out the best. Just fall back, regroup, and give "plan "B" or what ever letter your at, a chance to materialize. best of luck to you!
......Its okay to let out a little steam once in awhile......I'am glad you did it to your fellow hamber's.....we are strong in a group.....sharing and helping each other with thier cars , idea's,goals and most of all...."giving".......From the replys to this thread.I'am seeing fellow hambers are telling you to hang on and everything will be okay....you are a lucky man to have so many friends......Big Bad John.
Oh quit your complaining, I got to go interview for a job today and I would much rather be working on one of my cars. The name of the game is improvise, adapt and overcome. Looks like you have got the improvise part started now adapt.
****** got that right I've been self employed for 30 plus years and I constantly have to adapt and redirect. Being 62 and self employed forever no employer will even look at my job application so I just keep on getting creative and looking for the next opportunity. A good freind of mine has a road race shop up the road from me and business has been bad for 10 years now. I keep telling him to redirect to cl***ics and hot rods but no he keeps on his course. I am pretty sure he will be going under this year because he will not change. It will be sad to see but there is little to no demand for road race cars here, MSRA has 23,000 opportunities for work ( Street Rods ) for him, SCCA membership about 500 ( Road Race cars).
X4. As hard as it is, step back and chill a bit. If your the general leading your troops in battle the best set of eyes you have are the guys out front. Listen to the good, bad & the ugly from them & maybe all of you can benefit.
Some good advice in this thread. I'll tell ya what, some don't handle it the way I do, but here's what I do. When things are getting to me. I try and look at how lucky we are, we meaning all of us that are able to enjoy or hobby and lifestyle. Whether it be a pile of parts, or 5-6 cars running down the road. There are tons of people that can't feed their kids and or keep the lights on. So when times get rough, hang in there, hug the wife, hug the kids, spend 5 minutes in the shop thanking your lucky stars you have what you have. Just my 2 cents.
get drunker then a rat for afew days and your ole lady will knock some sense into ya. works everytime. Keep thy head up brother.
Tell me about it! Try feeling great about the economy when you see large automotive dealers and your parts venders going out. And to make things even brighter my wife has a brain tumor that also takes it toll on my shop time with trips to Mayo clinic and her inability to work more than a couple hours a day or drive...........Good friends sure help in times like these..................
