  3. If I was looking for a body today and did not want an A coupe or the like I would look for a '59-ish Volvo. They resemble a 3/4 sized '46 Ford, they are light usually inexpensive, can be found easily in a foreign car wrecking yard and a small block fits the engine bay perfectly.

Another fine body for a small block is a '58/9 Thames Freighter, they are not real plentiful back here but in the Bay Area they were pretty popular with small businesses in the '60s. So one should be around, the small block will slide right in behind the original dog house and they are lighter than an Econline.

Actually I see HAMB friendly cars in your part of the country all the time in our classifieds. If you are willing to go out of state the real deals on vintage tin is Oregon or Washington.

Then there is always the shoe box ford option, a small block actually fits better in the engine bay than the original flatty and they are an excellent hot rod.

I could go on all night here, if I had the cash and another 30 years I still couldn't build everything that is rolling around in my head. LOL

Why do you see that as an issue?

I guess great minds think alike, a V8 powered 122-S Amazon has been on my bucket list for at least two years now, almost bought one too, pretty good one too, oh well.
I road-tripped from Seattle back to Napa, and some of the stuff I saw for sale blew my mind with how much cheaper it was.

Hahaha no kidding, I kind of expected the pitchforks to start flying at me for not building the motor with vintage parts, but as a 17 year old student, vintage speed parts are a bit outside my current price range.

Be willing to drive far for what you want. My vote is a GM A body. Years 64-65

I know a guy from Tn that put a small block Chevy in a road runner. Really pissed off the mopar guys.

I imagine it would! I would be building a MoPar if I could afford it
(Personal favorite muscle car is a 69 RR A12, 440 six barrel, super-track-pack four speed, in green, with the black fiberglass hood obviously)

I’d seriously go for that 65 chevelle. It doesn’t need anything besides a drivetrain, really clean and has a nice interior. Perfect for a daily driver you can take to the track

The Chevelle would be choice. Light weight, lots of aftermarket support. Bolt in deal.

  18. I dropped a stout SBC into my '59 Ford a couple of years back. 3460 lbs and goes like a scalded dog. $_14.JPG IMG951035.jpg 629-033.JPG

  21. Ever since the Boss got that ‘65 Riv, he stretched the rules to include 65s too. But (thankfully) does not include Mustangs in that leeway.

The Chevelle is a cool car, no doubt. But there's a Chevelle on every corner. That Stude is the cat's ass! Bitchin car, and NOT a million of them out there. And I'm a Chevelle guy. But if I was looking for something like the OP is, that Stude would already be in my driveway, before it gets away.

    Hey Bob
Is a "scalded dog" slower or faster than a "raped ape":p

goodness. you have soooo many options.

i'm even considering dropping a chevy into my 1962 mercedes heckleflose more door. i gotta either sell it 'as is' or rebuild the stock engine and automatic.
    i've a good running 350/700r4 and a 454/whatever-60 hanging around... both from 'burbs 1989 and 1991.

Go on craigslist and type in a year. I do this when I am bored. I just did 1959, on a whim, and found several prospects within a 4 hour radius of you. I am just north of you at the moment.
