Jere sold the roadster a couple years ago. It now is in a fine collection in northeast Mass

Looking great! I appreciate the dedication you've put in to get to this point. I have 3/4s of a roadster but i'm still missing a 1/4 and a door I don't have pics but it is a bit worse than what you started with....this is my "coupster" which I plan to build first then swap bodies later coupester1.png as for now it is much better (rust and repair wise) than the roadster...your thread has given me hope

Lots done the last few days. I got bungs and tie rod ends so I set the front end up and tack welded it together. No pics but you've seen this done before. I also made the drivers wheel turn-big step. 1482981764438.jpg 1482981773818.jpg 1482981779378.jpg

  4. 3/4's of a roadster missing a 1/4 and a door, that adds up to 105% of a car!:D

Your coupester pile has '30 -'31 doors but '28 -'29 coupe, sport coupe quarters, the q's are not tall enough to flow into the beltlines... I used 5/4" plastic decking... careful some have cost saving dimples on the underside, it is flexible, on a hot and sunny day I let it SAG over a horizontal beam, hung a tire and rim on each end, it bowed over 2 feet, then I cut some posterboard templates of the quarter and tulip panel's top edge... then transfered that outline to the 5/4", cut them out with a saber saw / metal blade, some of the 5/4" have sawdust moulded into it, you can sand it ! I cut slightly bigger and then sanded... the bolts also easily PULLED the 5/4" down flush with the q's...
pic #2 is a '29 sport coupe come cabbie with 5/4" plastic decking...
pic #1 is a coupester useing the forward 16" of '35 tudor door patches as cowl patches, that leaves about 28" of flat patch panel, used them on the doors, a pair of '30 doors and '29 q's with '29 La salle cockpit combing and a 5/4" top rail......
    * pure resurection... parts piles like your's [our's] would never come back to life without the "repairing is better than buying" guys !

With the steering sorted, up next is the brakes. The pedals are model a that I hacked and bent up to mount on the x member with the original shafts. I fabbed up a plate to mount the master cylinder 1483146402368.jpg

Go a lovely bout of food poisoning a couple days ago but I got some done today. Welded up the master bracket. I thought I had a clevis from an old Camaro but after an exhaustive search I didn't find it. 1483397598562.jpg 1483397605117.jpg 1483397612445.jpg

  16. Gee, sorry to hear about that! Looks to be a long reach between the master and the pedal- are you extending the push rod?(or maybe you already have a long one?) I got my clevis from NAPA. Love the look btw!

Master cylinder bracket looks good- is that a bottle of "break fluid" next to it? (HaHa)

Hey - great build. I'm continually surprised at how you know how to fabricate all these parts & panels. I have a lot to learn.

Also, I'm not seeing the drive shaft you are talking about...

Thanks for the ingenious suggestion! hmm my tape measure doesn't seem to have 5/4" on it  I have an idea or two for the blending most likely bending the upper belt line (about mid way) over 90 degrees on the door tops and using tube or 1/2 round around the rear.

I'm pretty sure I am further "up" than you lol! this stuff is all Canadian the guy I bought this stuff from does source from the eastern provinces which are a bit drier but this was pulled from the "junk" pile the left over parts discarded after someone bought a "good" replacement 1/4, cowl etc. from him....the pics might be deceiving there is not a straight panel and the bottom 6-8" of everything is swiss cheese....the roadster stuff is probably 10x worse because it was a Vancouver Island (ocean) car :)

Carpenters call it five quarters... go figure ?

  25. Carpenters got that from the sawmill guys. At the mill, they cut logs into lumber which is 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, etc.

Ok let's get back on track. . . I got some goodies from America's oldest speed shop including the extended brake pedal rod. The shank is 13mm. EEk! The pin is bigger than the hole on the brake pedal arm so I will need to open it up tmrw 1484269618657.jpg

I also got a new spring and some shackles for both ends. My home-kit reverse eye experiment crumpled when I installed it then jumped on the frame. 1484269896239.jpg

Hold all accolades on my nice, tidy welds. I had the welder on the lower setting so they will be ground out and re-welded.

Next up was the clutch set up. Ben, you were right, I had to extend that arm too. I used a chunk of channel made it happen. 1484360513778.jpg 1484360531181.jpg the arm had to be moved over 1.5inches and had to be plumb and square. It took awhile but it fits mint.

If you want to give those new bits a little patina soak them in vinegar for a few days or so. You may want to test out on some scrap so you can get the pitting just right.
