Bob Larivee Sr. and Championship Auto Shows, Inc.are happy to announce that there will be a new addition to the Detroit AutoRama this year, called AutoRama Extreme. This is a totally seperate area, (still within Cobo Hall!) known as the Michigan Hall, which is where the Detroit AutoRama started back in the early 60s.

We have 50,000 square feet available to us that will feature Traditional and Rat Rods and the Traditional Rod Lifestyle. We are looking for anyone who has a neat Traditional Rod or a true Rat Rod (including motorcycles!)for display in this all new section. Bring on the primer, bare metal, flatheads, wide whites and steelies!

Special attractions include one of Jimmy Shines cars, along with the man himself who will be presenting his own special award. All other "judging" will be handled by fellow Traditional and Rat Rod enthusiasts. The awards are being hand crafted by fellow enthusiasts and believe me, they are trick!

Detroit AutoRama takes place this year March 3-4-5, 2005 at the Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan. Entry Fee is $50 and with your entry you get two 3-day admission passes, a neat commemorative display sign, a goodie bag jam-packed with Schtuphh and your own display area to dress up in your own unique style.

We will be putting up a $500 Best Club Display Award too!

We are open to suggestions from YOU to make this an unforgettable event, and we will be working with the crew from Old Skool Rodz too.

For more information, please call Bob Ashton or Bob Larivee Sr. at 248-373-1700. Or e-mail bashton@autorama.com

    So....whadddya Think?

oh shit. Here we go again but he did do a intro.

  4. HEY BOB, we know already, thank you. Josh Shaw posted the info here a couple weeks ago. Oh, and thanks for targeting our little "demographic group" [IMG]

  5. How often does the promoter of a big show invite guys like us and ask for our input? I'd give him a break and tell him what you want to see.

Is this section just for "Rat Rods" or is it for traditionally styled cars in general? Instead of the politics of trophies how about giving something cool to the participants. A Tshirt designed just for this croud or something of the like. Instead of trophies have a cool band play for this crowd. Trophies just cause problems. Picks aren't too bad but the guy that doesn't get one still feels left out.

I was thinkin about coming up for the show. This just gives me more incentive.

The Detroit Autorama has become THE biggest show in the country,
eclipsing the old Grand National Roadster Show.

It has to be seen to be believed.

And since they are adding another 50,000 sq feet,
you would have trouble seeing the whole thing in one day. [IMG]

A bunch of us will be there all three days,Pinstriping and causing trouble. [IMG]

*ahem* you failed to mention that the 'special place' is the basement... better yet, you are putting the "rat rods" ... WITH THE IMPORT CARS.

(hey I have some oil here... anybody got any water?)

Say what you all will, we will always appreciate the fact that the Larrivees made it possible for many of us to meet Ed Roth in person, and continued to bring us Ed up until the end.
The Larrivees are CAR SHOW history, whether you like it or not.
I only WISH the Houston AutoRama was as huge as the Detroit show sounds to be....
    Welcome, guys........

What ever happened to if you have nothing nice to say then shut the F!!! up.. If you don't want to go then don't go. Sit at home and photochop your car. People are working real hard to put on a cool time. I always bite my tongue and dont want to waist bandwidth, but damn.

And another fukkin' thing....if it really is true that Moriarty and Fritz might even POSSIBLY show their hard work there, why not just APPRECIATE that there is a place for them to do just that?
The Pinstripers Jams are being supported ,they raise money for charity, what's the downside?

Plowboy and I were talking about this subject today Im going to try to have my car back together by then. Shouldnt be a problem beings Im losing my job at the end of Dec. and unemployment is going to pay me to work on my car. But if Plowboy and I come up were probably going to look for someones floor to sleep on (Hint Hint). So would they classify My car as Traditional or Rat Rod??

Mel, I would consider it an honor and privilege to have both you and Aaron stay here at the house for the weekend. One bed upstairs is taken by BobK but there are still two downstairs available, not to mention a number of couches scattered throughout the house. Let me know if you'd like me to "reserve" them for you. [IMG]

    Sorry about the jobloss [IMG]

Let me toss this idea to you guys......

Anyone interested in doing a HAMB "club" display.

  22. Yorgatron, I'm understanding ya bro, but This is a "Heavy Hitter"(tm) giving some of us a chance to strut our stuff at the premeire showcase in the country. So what if he makes a few bucks.

What about all that exposure to the kids seeing HAMB type cars and people. What about the inspiration to the future Trad car builders. What about all the old heads that would stop by and share info and memories on how it was.

It's more about give and take. Somebody help me out here? I'm done now.

  23. Bob K. to answer your question, there are traditional custom classes but your car would not fit in to one of those classes.
The traditional custom would have to be suede paint and the rat rod custom would be unpainted (bare metal).
The same criteria carries over into the rod category.
Traditional rod classes, (coupe, sedan, roadster and pickup)
are suede paint and the rat rod classes, (coupe, sedan, roadster and pickup) are bare metal.
Your car would fall into one of the custom covertible classes, because of its shiny paint.

    PeterPan,
    I'll help ya...
How about you Shut the Fuck Up, YorgaTurd, you Fat Fuck?
Bitch, complain, criticize, harass, and offer NOTHING constructive seems to be your preferred method of expression....
Being a dumb, loud FAT ASS doesn't make you more knowledgable, nor does your high post count of SHIT TALK.
How about YOU go fuck yourself, and let us know how it turns out?
And I don't sell shit on here, so stuff that argument up your enormous cornhole.

Interesting...is there a seperate class for metalflake? what about a high metallic? or an old laquer job thats kinda dull but not quite suede...but not glossy? if the car is covered in surface rust, is that bare metal, or does the oxidation count as suede? what class would this car go in? it's shiney flake and suede base. crisis!!! [IMG]

I like the idea though...just hop you get some NICE cars to come out of the woodwork instead of a bunch of "death" rods.

  26. K&R, one good reason car shows suck. Dont get me wrong, I still go to them. But the politics are a little to much for me.

For all of you southerners out there (and everyone who hates EVERYTHING) there is 4 winter sports here in the frozen north from late November to mid-March. 1. Bowling 2. Drinking 3. ice fishing 4. More drinking.
I don't bowl or ice fish and I've got better things to do with my money than drink so I'm pretty limited for activities during the winter. The few car shows we have are my only break to maintain my sanity (how many hours can you spend in the garage?)
The Detroit Autorama has been a traditionanl winter break for me (and quite a few others) for years. Now there seems to be an effort to showcase the kind of cars that are popular here and I, for one, am looking forward to the change of pace. Why pass judgement before the fact, lets see how this first effort is recieved and see if it's an improvement or not.

  28. Ok, I need to make myself clear. I dont live in a major populated area. We get a couple hundred cars for our indoor show and maybe 2 that would get HAMMBers dicks hard. Folks out here are a little behind on style and the cool factor. I am jaded against the car shows. I do need to hit a big show like this one some time to see it.

But I digress, we are (HAMBERS) I mean, for driving cars. Car shows cater to another style of car and person. The fucked judging in car shows nationwde is the one reason that I get queasy thinking about shows.

Sure, they are fun to go to when it is cold, hell, I get paid to work our booth at the local show, the best point for me is the people. Middle of winter, good folks and cars and beer. Oh, and the titty bar Sat night [IMG]

  29. K&R, I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but I'll try to answer your questions.
There is no seperate classes for metalflake or any highly metallic paint, paint is paint, but you would get credit for them in the judging of the car.
If the car is rusty then it's not painted so would go to the rat rod classes.
If I was classifying the chev, I would probably make it a traditional custom, because of the suede base paint and blanket interior. I believe it could compete more fairly there than in the regular custom classes.

Tman, Ive been doing shows for a long time, and to be truthful I've not seen all these politics everyone keeps talking about. It's been my experience that most car show judges do the very best job they can even tho some of the competitors don't agree.
