    HRLC,

Can you recomend any hotels in the area. My wife and daughter will be with me so I will need something close and decent.

    Thanks,

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Ponchatrain Hotel is directly across the street from Cobo Hall and is very nice with a decent resturant inside as well. In the past the rooms have beeen right around $100. They do sell out fast. My suggestion is to call now to secure one. Your wife and baby would be very safe walking back and forth thoughout the day by themselves if they needed to head back to the room to nap or feed. Their number is 313-965-0200. If this doesn't hotel doesn't work out let me know and I'll get you a few more places that are a couple of blocks away.

    Denise,
What is hotel at the Millender (sp) PeopleMover stop? HotRodTom and I stayed there for one autorama show and took the PeoleMover back and forth. That worked great.

Bob's response is just ONE reason the Detroit Autorama is the premier indoor custom car show in the world! Also one of the reasons I have missed very few in the past 46 years. (that makes me sound really old)

I hate the work "extreme" - tell you what, if everything is as extreme as it's supposed to be right now we've gotta be living in one Really dangerous society. I saw a fucking extreme cereal the other day - wtf is so extreme about cereal?????

Don't forget to but up lots of flashing lights, maybe some explosions - man that THAT would be extreme.

Maybe you should try to incorporate some other worn out post generation-x catch phrases. - OOOOOOOOOO, you could say it's DA BOMB - that would work great. Maybe it could be The SHizzle???? or is that Shiznet?? Shihtzu??? - no, that's a dog.

    Fire the marketing department.

Hey kids - remember to recycle - TO THE EXTREME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that is the Omni, or use to be called that, and would be my second choice if staying downtown.

There is also a hotel at the Renaissance Center which is also on the People Mover route but I'm not sure of it's name (I've heard rumors that's where the die hard partyers stay, so you'd better watch where you step [IMG] )

Bob Larivee Sr. decided to call it "Extreme" because he felt that this would represent an Extreme Departure from what the Detroit AutoRama has done for the past 20-30 years. I am sure he didn't snag this term because it is a current hot catch phrase!

A little more history for you. The idea to do this came about when Bob Sr. observed the display and cars at the Cincinatti AutoRama. He travels all around attending shows and couldn't help but notice how cool the Rat Rods are and he personally considered them to be some of the neatest and most creative stuff he saw at various shows. I think from talking with him, that when the club at Cincinatti did thier thing, that was it. Now in my opinion...that says something.

Oh, and there will be no flashing lights or explosions! [IMG]

Thanks to both of you. I have the good fortune of having the cubicle (or as my wife calls it "cubby") right next to Bob Srs office. I printed a copy of your note and handed it to him personally. Sr. is not a computer guy, but I am happy to give him any notes or messages. Sr. will be actively involved in this portion of the show, including awarding a "Sr's Pick" award.

You can't compare apples to oranges....that's the problem with "judged" custom car shows. Antique restorations are easilyjudged, but our stuff has too many differences. Which category is more desirable..."fresh suede" or "weathered shiny"???.. [IMG]...I don't think rat rods or bare metal cars belong in an indoor car show. Traditionally these shows are for finished "show cars", not daily drivers or "trend of the week" stuff......but I do enjoy Autorama, and thanks Bob for putting it on and trying to please everybody....My son and I always enjoy it.

Go to www.autorama.com which is the Championship Auto Shows website. Click on the "consumer sales" icon, then the "rates" icon. This lists the commercial vendor rates for all of the CASI shows.

Please get ahold of me to lock in a spot in the appropriate area...I'll take good care of ya!

Bob...the only input I would have is this....don't let this area become a gathering of junk. Influencing young people is great, just make sure it is positive influence. Street driven cars that are unsafe don't belong in a show....unsafe as in...no floorboards, no front brakes, and obviously "thrown together" cars just to be part of "the scene". I compare this to the famous people that are showcased each year for the kids (and adults)....you get "good" role models, sports figures, movie stars...not Jeffrey Dahmer. Good luck with this new idea, and I will definitely check it out on saturday....I know if you are involved, it will be first rate.

  27. Damn! That sounds like a great time! Johnny, I hope some day to meet you. You, sir, are a gentleman. I have my 2003 Slots of Doom poster proudly displayed on my flamed fridge.
Unfortunately, I'm having some tuning difficulties, combined with a thin wallet, means no Detroit for me. I'm gonna try to convert the Chicago World of Wheels the way the Indy Road Rockets did in Indy. I can limp my car downtown Chi-Town.

Bitch, complain, criticize, harass, and offer NOTHING constructive seems to be your preferred method of expression....
Being a dumb, loud FAT ASS doesn't make you more knowledgable, nor does your high post count of SHIT TALK.
How about YOU go fuck yourself, and let us know how it turns out?
And I don't sell shit on here, so stuff that argument up your enormous cornhole.

[/ QUOTE ] i guess if i was in jr.high that would be a hell of an insult.i don't know why you feel the need to kiss autoramabob's ass,but that's your business, not mine.you seem to have had it in for me ever since i mentioned that i had talked to Larry Henley on a couple of occasions.he pisses you off for some reason so you've decided to transfer that to me.so be it.it ain't like the guy is my best friend or anything, hell,i hardly know him.i do know this, you both use the memory of Ed Roth to make a living, which i find sad.you wanna kick my ass,you can drive out here in your stanley steamer and find me.i'll be working on cars, not just drawing them.

    Hell,
Did it take you 24 hours to come up with that?
Some advice for you, Mr. "Fuck Off and Die":
Learn to breathe through your nose, and try breath mints.
Take a huge Mastodon-sized shit (like usual),THEN sit down to type-after the oxygen returns to your head.
    As for your comments NOW:
Henley has nothing to do with this....The fact that you call some of the HAMB artists art fags does.
You find it sad that I am making a living using Roth Studios characters as part of my work? TOUGH SHIT.....Ed PLANNED it that way. We DISCUSSED it before his passing, and he outlined how I was to continue after he was gone.
His gift to my wife and myself. Do you honestly think I give a fuck what you think about it?
    Working on cars?
I'll be working on cars with a member of the 200 MPH Club...best goddamn pal & teacher around...and I'll be drawing them.......and I'll be laughing every minute at the way you STARTED this shit, then tried to turn it around.
    Fight?
Shit,Yogi....even my wife would not hesitate to split that piece of UGLY FRUIT you call a head down the middle,so save the tough guy talk....
