Have a check box on the entry form: Non-Judged. Another would be: Traditional Class and yet another Rat Rod! 'Cause some do and some do not......care.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I like this idea! Like you say...some do and some don't. Some of you might also be surprised at how many calls and e-mails I have gotten that open with, "Hey, I gotta real sweet '32 "Rat Rod"

And here's another interesting little story; my wife, who spends considerable hours at various car functions (imagine that) thought a Rat Rod was anything with a really BIG Chevy engine! [IMG]

WOW!!!! I can't believe I just read this whole thread. There has got to be someplace where there are more whiners, and bitchers but I'm at a loss to figure out where. Safariknut posted a couple of thousand posts ago reminding us that there are some here that remember when the term HOT ROD was about the most offensive thing you could say about someone who liked to modify and drive (or race) their car. Now we all covet that term as though it were a badge of sainthood. I don't have an opinion one way or another but I do know if Boyd Coddington is turning out "rat rods" this segment of the hobby has just gone beyond the reach of my wallet.
Anyone who knows me will tell you the "extreme" interest I have in participating in car shows. I do like to attend when the weather doesn't allow for driving and enjoying my ----------,(those who have seen my car insert proper term). That said I just told my wife I thought it would be kinda fun to take the '32 and put it in this new section of COBO. Just drive it in off the street, park it, hang out with some friends, and enjoy the show. Exactly like I do when I go to an event during the summer. If it's going to involve this much DRAMA, why bother? I really appreciate the effort that the promotors are taking to try out this new venture, but I can see if the trophy whores and "catagory" critics get their say when the real event takes place I'll just sit back and wait for good weather where I can take my car out and go for a ride.

Have you noticed that none of the bitching and complaining has come from the "local" guys that we see every year at the Autorama. Those of us that go every year understand what it means and how cool it will be to participate at our level.

one point , besides the " rat rod " controversy , is that there were an awful lot more finished / painted traditional customs than there were " suede " cars . In fact I think the whole suede thing wasn't really an option till the early 90's . I think that you could let people put traditional customs painted or suede on the same floor and not raise to much of a stink .

hatch, I can't believe you took me seriously. I've never even been to Detroit, but I think I might have smelled it from Gary, Indiana. Now Gary's a truly beautiful city populated with wonderful, friendly people.

Seriously dudes, get over the Rat Rod thing.

Folks used to call my bike a Rat Bike and I used to get bent, now I don't give a flying fuck what they wanna call my creations.

Labels are pathetic, learn to live with them.

PS, I'm wearing Jordache jeans, an Izod sweater, a pair of Ferregamo sandals and I'll be going out tonight with a Gucci bag on my shoulder.

Nads - Maybe the guys are just at the point where you were when you felt like that. Soon they will be where your at now and not give a fuck.

But if everyone wants to drop this do not reply and let this post fall back in the pages of the Hamb. If everyone keeps replying like I am doing right now IT WILL NEVER DIE.

Thanks Bob for starting the best post this year.

It's funny how people who think they are old school and want to have a copy of a car built in the 50's use a computer to let the world know they are old school.

If you were really old school , rat rod, or traditional you'd use a frickin stamp and mail in your comments!!

I'm still wondering what the consequences will be with a huge gathering of traditional rides on one end of the basement... and a huge gathering of import cars on the other. I still see this as a disaster waiting to happen. I've seen it to a small extent at local shows.

Traditional rods + Import cars + beer = trouble.

Well you see Mike, THEY hold their gun's sideways (I've tried to shoot like this, no wonder the intended target never dies in drive-bys!), WE hold our guns correctly; therefore we will win. [IMG]

(I know you guys are Traditional and all, but I ain't about to pull a switchblade and go into a dance routine! [IMG] [IMG])

I'm seriously thinking of throwing my hub cap into the ring here. I just want a damn goodie bag! [IMG]
Seriously, I would be truely honored to have my car accepeted.
I'm trying to figure out the logistics of time and distance (getting the car there and back).

I like to think of my Fleetline as more traditional/old school than rad rod. I don't handle change real well.
If there's a HAMB section, I wanna be in it.

I have a simple suggestion for those of you that don't feel this is a worthwihile post, that's it's spam, or any other negative perspective. Stop replying and don't come to the show.
    Geeez, that was easy, huh?

I'm with Donzie on this one.

    A- I'm going.

B- I'm covering it in my mag.

C- I'm going to have a fucking great time.

    End of story.

Hey Autorama Bob- Are you the guy I contact about media credentials?

Sounds to me like there oughta be a GMB Outreach HAMB party at Denise's on Sat. nite for all us outta towners.

    It could be EPIC...

I am really looking forward to March in Detroit...I never thought I'd say that.

Just a suggestion......how about losing the term Rat Rod all togehter and just have a section for traditional cars...period. Then you wouldn't have to split hairs on what's what.

If those HAMB folks that are planning on bringing their cars want to all be together in a section, I'll volenteer to gather all the applications and give them to Race. If they are turned in together Race will set the HAMB up with a nice section.

Sounds like a good idea. We'll plan something for sure... and we'll certainly show our outta town HAMB brothers a good time. Without this sounding too gay, my Dad is really looking forward to meeting you. Your mag is the only one he subscribes to. [IMG]

and if you'd like to sleep here at the house too, I've got room. [IMG]

That sounds like a hell of an idea!

Edit: Would an unfinished old wagon w/ holes in the floor fit in? If I could get my motor swapped (easy), brakes rebuilt (easy), and the car laying on the gound (chopped springs, anyone?)-- the paint is in good enough shape (dull white/yellow) as is the interior, I'd LOVE to have it in the show...
