tulsa raceway in tulsa okla now lets spectators have free tickets for all bracket races . they hae to park in normal spectator parking and not bring cvoolers in. food is real good inside and he only hopes to fill the stands a bit and let em buy a little something to eat or a sshirt etc. works pretty good. averageing about 1000 spectators a week that way It sure dont hurt to support all that do for us as they sure don't have to and won't for long if they are not at least thanked for there support of us

I think the ARDL concept of free spectators is brilliant
introduces the kids to the sport
because all the big dollar , racer paid purse , have zero spectators , 20 bucks is too much for a ticket
noticed tons of empty seats at NHRA Btistol last night on espn

That puts a new slant on buying 50/50 tickets, I'll keep that in mind.

I wonder if cheapness is a regional thing? In central and southern Ohio I see plenty of generosity and there are lots of shows. Some churches run a $5 to $10 car admission fee (free to public) and offer free food/soda for a $$ donation. I know they do real well with donations for "free" food and the car event is a primary fundraiser for them. I've been to some with well over 100 cars.
I'm sure there are some tightwads around here but they seem way outnumbered by the rest around here. Too many guys seem to have "price" and "value" confused.

I have guy I do cars for that won't attend local car shows because they don't have big enough trophies. Its embarrassing. He only takes them to Goodguys with a "For Sale" flag hanging out the window. We had a cruise- in, in our parking lot a month ago, and there was a woman sitting at the entrance just asking for donations, otherwise it was a free show. I lost count of how many just blew right past her. There was a good turnout of cars and spectators alike, but they sure don't stick around long. My observation is they're just trophy hunters. Who cares about a stupid-ass dash plaque? Nobody around here brings out their cars just to have fun.

  6. I don't understand the trophy hunter mentality either, but there's a good percentage of people who just feel the need to think they're better than everyone else. My sister is like that, to listen to her bitch about her jobs and how either the customers or the other employees all suck, you'd think she has no life at all. Well, actually she doesn't, but I digress. The point seems to be to feel important and better than the other guy, and some have the need to have something to brag about, too.

I think the cheapness rolls into it as another way to lord it to others, the less they pay to win the smarter they think it makes them seem.

Then again I see it mainly from the vendor/seller side, and if there's one thing I've learned in the last 10 years, it's that way too many people are assholes who are in dire need of a beat down.
