Each time I select this thread it trips my DSL connection. It's the only one that's done that, on this board or others. I suspect the thread has a glitch of some sort, probably in one of the many picture files. Anyone else been affected or is it just me being paranoid?
I haven't been looking at that one since it got so big, but the other day there was one thread on here that kept shutting my entire computer down. I would have to restart everything after opening it. Somebody has some serious gremlins running through their stuff..... JT.
av8 - there are a LOT of photos on that post. i'm guessing that you're pushing the limits of the memory installed on your system. ...then maybe DSL handlers are dying because of it. try viewing the post one page at a time and see if that helps... -- raaf
raaf -- Could be memory, I have only 512MB. Other threads with this amount of info load in my system in less than 10 seconds. Could be a problem with my server, but it's the only time it's happened in more than two years with these folks. I posted this simply as a caution; someone might have some shit in their in their system that's corrupting the thread -- and passing along their ailments.
On a related subject, a post I clicked on just within a week or so ago, when the page came up, an MSN messenger thingy or something like it came up and asked me to sign in... it's happened occasionally before...weird...
Mike:I'm sure there is a Long Winded Computer Jiberish(tm) explaination. Just as an experiment,at the top of the pageo to "my home", then beside "Display preferences, number of shown threads, languages, colors... "select "edit" Scroll down to"Total posts to show on one page when viewing a post in flat mode (default is 15)" Change this number to 10 then hit the "submit" button at the bottom of the page. This reduces the number of posts per page in a long thread,so the page should load faster and not require as much harware resources. If it doesn't work, you can change it back.
Unkl -- Mine was set at 35. I changed it to 10 as you suggested, it loaded the entire thread in about 3 seconds but put up an overlay window asking me if I wanted to go on line! just as it did earlier. When I selected CONNECT it responded that it was unable to connect, however, the entire thread was loaded. When I closed the thread and attempted to load this one it came right up -- connected -- with no delay. Go figure. Looks like I might have an internal gremlin. Probably time to disconnect/reconnect power to the DSL modem. Thanks for the direction . . . Mike
im just guessing,...but id like to think it was the post 35 fenderless rods shutting it down. hahhaahah
Sounds like more than 1 problem. When in doubt,I just turn the machine off and turn it back on again.Works more often than not. The default setting is 15,which is a little long for some of these "show me every picture you can find" posts.I don't know DSL from NFG.
Unkl, Just changed mine to 10, It was set at 25. It's like I got a new super computer. Thanks for the tip chuck
