So I'm driving to work this morning ('61 falcon 170) and halfway up large hill in a blind curve ..... ppplb nuthin' dern thing just dies.... Well I' figure... Might be the plug wires I just changed points condenser distributor cap wires and plugs monday.... so i get out.. check the plug wires nothing.. keep in mind I'm on a state highway halfway through a blind corner and on a hill.... nothing crank crank... damn this is getting annoying.... so I finally decide to back down the hill where I can pull off I'm right next to the guard rail after 30 or so cars blazing around me and several honks lol I get to a pull off and get off the road... well the only thing I didn't replace monday was the rotor and the coil.... pop the hood sure enough no spark.... Call help run to parts store just to rule out any bad parts go ahead get coil extra points condenser and rotor... back to car with my old plug wires (I knew they worked but replaced them because they were getting shabby) so change wires.... nothing... well hell coil next Yep that was it so word to anyone who cares and thinks aww might as well use the old .. whatever sometimes it pays in advance to just go ahead and swap it all out .... maybe this is a pointless post but it might help someone diagnose something or think twice and save themselves a lost 1.5hrs of work lol
You had a Hot & Cold coil . The coil works fine until it get hot then quits . I had one on a Ford van back in the early 70's . Took me forever until I happened to just try a coil . Now 30+ years later and I have never forgotten it !
