It's been a few years since I've been on the HAMB. I've been busy building a new house, slingin' ink, but MAINLY...I had DIAL-UP. ARGH! Finally got DSL and all's well again. I don't spend a ton of time on line, but I do check it out a few times per week.

I'm Lance Sorchik, I'm a high school art instructor in Northern New Joisey and this coming year will be my 25th year at that job! Hard to believe! I'm also a hot rod illustrator and have been doing that since '89 "professionally" when I started my business, Jumpstart Graphics. I've been drawing for Rodders Digest Magazine for 20 years (taking a break right now) and mainly I'm a freelance illustrator that focuses on only automotive art. Oh yeah, I like to distort the looks of cars in my drawings...it's just a lot more fun to do than realistic renderings.

I love building hot rods but have not had the opportunity for the past 4 years due to the house building deal. I am currently in the final stages of building my new shop, so when I find the time, I'll be back in the garage again. I'm really psyched about getting dirty once more. Can't wait to get everything out of storage and in one spot.

Greetings to everyone. I'm sure I know a lot of you but do not know your screen names, so bear with me as I re-aquaint myself to the HAMB. It's good to be back.

Hey, Lance, welcome! Good to see you (back) on here. I've been a big fan of your hot rod drawings for years, and hope to see more of your stuff in the future.

    Later,******6

When you dig out the B400, make sure to post pics. Always wondered the progress ever since the chassis article in American Rodder.

    Lance,

Besides being a fan of your work in the "original" incarnation of Rodders Digest, I'm also in the education field, and I must commend you for 25 years in the classroom. Welcome back to the HAMB!

I should be getting the B-400 out within the next couple of weeks. NOTHING...I mean NOTHING, has changed on it since the article (except maybe a flat tire or two). I'll post some pix as soon as I figure out how.

    Thanks

    Ryan,

Wow, another educator. Nice to hear from you and thanks for the kind words. 25 years seems like a lifetime (maybe it is!), but I'm still having fun so I keep doing it. But I do need my 'alter ego' side of me in the hot rod world to keep my sanity. I'll bet that you know what I mean!

    Kinky6,

Thank you. I'm still 'out there', just not as circulated as RD allowed me to be. I'm doing a ton of logo and T-shirt art, but usually only the client gets to see it until they use it on their wears.

    Eric,

Great to hear from you again. It was nice to actually meet last year at the Nats. Diane and I won't be going to L'ville this year...the garage is priority.

    Keep in touch.

    Welcome man!

I have to tell you, and those who know me will know I mean this as a compliment in my own, sick way.....

I've always thought you have a PERFECT***** Star name! :D

I dig your stuff, good to see ya.

Thirtyfivepickup: Thanks for the compliments. Glad your sense of reality is on the distorted side too.

Hotrodyblock: I'll put pix of the '48 as soon as I have time to figure out how. Send me a PM with instructions. I'm sure it's simple, I just haven't been on long enough to figure it out.

Harmsway: Jersey Suede is still in my possession, just been tucked away in a barn for the past 4 years. It should be home in the next few weeks. I can't wait to see it again on my own property.

MonsterGarage: Hey John, good to hear from you. Drop me a PM with the request you had towards the end of the school year. I can probably help you out.

CuriousRash: Uh...thanks...I think!? The deal is, if you take your middle name and then add the name of the first street you lived on in your life, THAT becomes your***** name. So let's see, that would make me...Walter Walnut. NOW THAT'S A***** STAR NAME IF I EVER HEARD ONE!!!

    Thanks everyone.

How about posting a thread of your all time favorites. I love you work man. Been a fan for a long time. Come on. Start a new thread. Can't wait.

  21. Lance,
I can remember reading Rodder's Digest when it first came out. I used to look forward to the new issues just to see what kind of crazy new illistrations you'd have on the pages. FWIW, the 41-6 Chevy pick-em up in the "Ask Doctor Hotrod" column was my favorite. Glad to see you here on the HAMB. Welcome aboard.

WB54 & Jimmy: Thanks for making me feel at home again. I feel like I've simply disappeared over time. I think it's time to get back in the saddle again.
