I would be very thankfull for any help I could get. I have been on here for hours searching and reading related threads, I've checked other inline 6 forums, particks, cliffords, hemmings and I can't find my block casting numbers anywhere. I was about to order a dual carb intake, split header, valve cover and side plate for what I thought was the original 216 in my 52 chevy. I quickly found my perimeter bolt valve cover is not of a 216, so I began chasing numbers: Cylinder head casting 3836848-1956 235" Block casting 0545469-F54Z. I know by the numbers the block is regular old 54 by the F54Z but I can't find any site listing a 0545469 casting anywhere, can anyone help identify it so I can get on with spiffing it up a bit?
post a couple pics, that might help. those casting numbers dont look right. go right above the starter and look for a casting date too. take a toothbrush and scrape it away. its gotta start with a 37.......
yeah I think what I posted wasn't the number I thought it was. The casting number must be completely behind the starter, sucks I had just had it off to rebuild it three days ago. Anyhow the date code reads D 15 4 so I would like to assume its april 15 54?
I have a couple of '54 235's and the casting number is on the starter side of the engine at the front just above the pan flange and below another cast rib on the block. It is done in small numbers. It is probably greased over pretty well. 0545469-F54Z stamped behind the distributor is the engine number. The F54Z means that it was made in Flint, is a 54, the Z tells you it is a base or regular engine.
like I said thanks for the help, I guess I really only needed to know what head I have so I can do what I need to do.
