Thats too bad. That old boy had hoards and hoards of stuff in there. Did they sell it, or scrap it all?

As for old trucks, this one here is owned by a friend of mine.

He travels the country in it, as a truck safety advocate. He lives in SoCal, and the truck has a very interesting history.

Here is another truck that I grew up around.

The old guy who owns this one has had it for over 30 years, and it was his daily driver. I havent seen him, or the truck in awhile.

I wanted to buy me about a '64 KW, because it was the first year of the wide, tilt hood, but you could still get the narrow cab. Or even a Pete conventional with the small windows. But since I came off the road and sold my truck, I dont have any spare cash...

I have always had a soft spot for cool cabovers though...

Lastly, these arent old, but they look old skool...

That's a cool little IH there, looks like a 3-53 Detroit. Only thing I see wrong with it is the steering wheel is on the wrong side. :D

The annual ATHS convention will be in Pleasonton CA in 2010. If Gene is feeling up to it, I am sure he will be down with his toys...

  10. Here's a look back at how cars used to be transported.

Note that almost all the trucks hauling Fords were Ford trucks. (Naturally...right?)

Pre 1949, the largest engine offered in a Ford truck was the 90-horsepower flathead V-8, the same basic engine used in the pre 1949 Ford passenger cars and pickups.

All naturally aspirated engines loose 3% of their sea-level horsepower for every 1,000 feet of elevation.

Can you IMAGINE pulling those loads over the Colorado mountains with only 60 net horsepower??? !!!

    (10,000 ft X 3%-oer thousand = 30% -30% x 90HP = 63HP)

    Can you spell S-L-O-W ??

Just like on old Cummings to mark its territory(parking spot). I have always wondered what became of that old Pete. I would love to drive that old twin stick. It would be super cool for a while; until my kidneys failed. I wonder if that thing has an air assist power steering?

I've got this old Kenworth cab in my backyard that I wanted to build a cool low-rider Rig out of; so that I could get into the car hauling business. But, then it just fell by the wayside. There goes another dream, lost to "coming to my senses".

I've got the old shutter type thermostat and grille shell for it too floating around back there somewhere.

This is kind of what I had in mind for my cab. Not the tank pull trailer mind you, just the tractor. With a big Texas bumper, 7" diameter straight stacks, and a low-rider visor this would have been sweet.

I've been tring to find info on the "Eisenhower Freighter" for years. Jim Carter's website had some info years ago which is where I got this pic. The thing had two chevy stovebolt engines, one slightly above and behind the other one. They drove separate axles thru separate drivelines, Rear axle (i think) and front two axles were steerable. It looks like they built a prototype or two but this thing would have been a bear to drive in the years before the Interstate highway system.

Would it be possible for you to take some straight on pictures of the merc badging on the front and sides,so I could make some scale badges?

Those cabs were built by THE BUDD CO.
    Ford,Mack,and F.W.D used these cabs.I think Mack stopped in '62.Mack only used a 4 headlight system.Mack called it a N model
F.W.D didn't use the stock headlight location, they put the lights in the grill hole due to increased height of the chassis
I think BUDD also made the cabs that Dodge and F.W.D. used on there conventonal big trucks also.

    V12 DETROIT KW
named...CONCORDE, because of its extended bonnet to house the V12 Detroit with twin turbos, 600hp. This truck now belongs to my uncle, was 1 of 2 custom built in New Zealand for logging contractor Mike Lambert. This truck held the track record at Baypark, Mt Maunganui for many years, until purpose built race tracks came along. This truck one of New Zealands most famous trucks. In its day no other truck came close, this thing passed cars loaded. Concorde now houses sleeper box, truck will be painted back into original colours, maroon of Mike Lamberts when new. I dont know if there were any v12 Kenworths built with these guards in the states?

heres 2 airbrushed paintings I have just completed. LW Kenworth logger, from a famous New Zealand fleet, which had about 40 of these. The Mack Superliner is 1 of 16 built in Australia that were painted these colours, special edition, most went on roadtrain work towing up to 6 trailers in the outback. These paintings are 1600mm in length. These are completely airbrushed using cut stencils and computer cut lettering
