I'm guessing it was due to the numerous highway rescue stories. If it was kept to the car itself it probably wouldnt have been a problem. Be suprised to see this thread stay....

I agree, it would have been interesting if the car had remained the focus.

This guy drives all over San Diego County on his own time in a pre-1964 car helping people on the side of the roads for free so why is that off topic? He meets a lot of different people and has a lot of interesting stories about them. If the mods don't want to read them that's fine but a lot of us do enjoy reading them. Lighten up, mods....

With all due respect Ryan, if you don't know what SanDiegoHighwayman is talking about, then you need to check up on your monitors a little closer, I think.
After your post about watches that progressed into ball point pens, etc. I think this is pure hipocracy. (sp?)

I closed my own thread on that one... So, hypocrisy... yes... but with bounds.

    I'll go check it out.

I went and looked at the thread... Seemed more like a Facebook kind of thread to me??? I really don't get it...

But if you guys dig it, I'll make it happen. I've undeleted the thread for now.

  12. Yep, some of the moderation seems more than a little quixotic at times. It's a little hard to preach the gospel if you don't let them into the church....

The thread in question has tended to wander around more than a bit, but it is unique and very unlikely to be duplicated by anybody else....

Ryan, I posted a thread on: Things you only do once. It had 26 responses before it was deleted. Comment was, too FaceBook like! What does that even mean? My first two entries under that thread was, clutch disk in backwards and reverse burnouts. Seems pretty "on topic" for the HAMB!

Nice move.....highwaymans a good guy and I think this is a great place for him to post up his adventures, even if there is a little self back pattery going on, ha! Plus the last thing I need is another case of car blue balls.....

Probabaly ought to close this thread before people start the whole "my thread got closed too! whyyyyy!!!"

My target audience is guys that complain about threads like "things you only do once" because it's threads like those that are continually bumped with off topic **** - driving things like build threads and real traditional topics to the bottom of the page.

I don't want the HAMB to be some huge forum with lots of people posting random **** here and there (I've tried that to a certain degree and didn't care for it). Instead, I want the HAMB to be small and personal... full of guys that love traditional hot rods and customs. When too many threads stray from our guidelines (you can read those here), those guys start to find other avenues out of frustration.

So yeah, I let some **** slide... We have some sidebar topics for sure. But at the end of the day, your thread is not safe unless it is focused on traditional hot rods or customs... or, at the very least, traditionally styled hot rods or customs.

What's the definition of a traditional hot rod and custom? That's different for everyone. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on who you are), this forum is ran off my definition. You can find a general feel for how I feel about that here and here.

Finally, my speech about elitism and what not... The fact that the HAMB and The Jalopy Journal focuses on traditional hot rods and customs does not mean that I **** on cars of a different style or people with different tastes/views. Far from it... In fact, I'm also a "vintage" Porsche guy as well. I don't allow Porsche content on the HAMB. Why? Because they aren't traditional hot rods...

Point is, the focus of the Jalopy Journal and the HAMB is an editorial decision - not a personal decision. So, please don't take our editorial decisions personally. It's unfair to do so on both sides of the line...
