I had polio a long time ago and in my old age getting up and down off the floor is taking most of the fun out of working on my coupe. My question is, do any of you other old geezers have this problem and have you found a way or device that makes the getting up and down easier? My thought was one of those hydraulic lift tables, the problem is, someone has to stand beside it to pump it. If anyone has any ideas, please post them up. Thanks and take care.

  2. I installed a 12v winch overhead in my Dads bedroom so Mom could put a harness on him to stand him up and get him in the wheel chair, He had ALS and could hardly move. You might hang one, even off an engine hoist and lower and raise yourself. Got the Harbor freight winch and a harness from a safety supply. Just a thought, I'm lucky so far only slower.

you could find small air cylinder ( 12"x ) that would lift you up just regulate ( restrict ) the air pressure to slowly lift instead of catapulting you , and they do make air over hydraulic pumps for lifts . ( the kind they use for car jacks )

I would think that a creeper with a scissor lift mechanism would work. The creeper would be slightly higher than normal after the addition of the scissor lift. It could be battery powered and operated by a linear actuator. The creeper would need to lift up to about the height of a bed and then you could rotate off of it and on to your feet.

I really feel that the best solution is a car lift that raises the vehicle just high enough for you to move around underneath it while sitting in a chair that has wheels. A friend of mine has his set up like this. Originally he had to use the lift this way because his ceiling was to low to raise the lift fully. Later in life he found that it had the added benefit of not getting up and down off of a creeper.

I have similar mobility problems and I think about problems like this one. I have modified a friends van so that the driver seat retracts to the middle of van and he could enter from the side door. On the same van I made a mechanism to open and close the side door remotely.

Getting old is not for the weak. We have to think our way around our physical problems.
