Not long ago I was flipping through an old copy of Super Stock & Drag Illustrated and came upon this Hurst ad. I thought it was great how they not only demonstrate the ability of their product to get the job done but also how to do it correctly.
Thats real cool. I had an OT car a few years ago with Hurst shifter. So much fun rowing thru the gears. I should have bracket raced that car. Ran 14.001 to 14.010 several passes in a row on different days. On a side note Muttley, every time I read your posts I hear Muttley!? Thanks
That is an awesome old Hurst ad. I have had a Hurst "T" handle on all my cars since they came out. The reason is one day at the drags in a slightly too old for hamb race car it was HOT and having to keep the windows closed my hand was sweating and when we launched everything was fine until the 1st/2nd shift when my sweating hand slipped off the stock Hurst round ball knob. The shift was made ok but I was sitting there wondering just what the heck just happened for a few microseconds and the guy in the other lane just walked away on by me.
Love the reference to "jam it back home" in the add. Those were the days, I lived em, political correctness hadn't been born yet, and products were made to be used, and used hard!!
Years ago I had a bracket Mustang running a 4 speed with Hurst Competition Plus shifter. I replaced it with one of their Ram Rod straight line shifters and never missed a shift after that. No neutral gate to navigate. It was a little tougher to use on the street but so much more efficient than the H pattern. On the CP shifter I had even tried the T handle they sold and still occasionally missed a shift. Don
