Is there a place that has any soup recipes like used
    in the 50s and 60s?
My dad said he used aircraft gas and Diethyl Ether
not sure of the ratios. Also Nitro., put a s**** half way down in the gas and let
a drop disperse over the back of the s**** into the gas so it would not go bang.
Sounds a little nuts to me.
I remember him saying that At Middletown New York , the State Police came in on race night and got a lot of guys for carrying nitro in little Gl*** Vials on chains around their necks.
Not that I wanna burn down my garage....

That's the one. I bought it off his familie's site though (goes to Amazon when you buy it:rolleyes:). I can get you the blend, the Book's at home. Something like gas, nitro, amyl acetate (sp?) and water, or was it alcohol, nitro, water and something else? Right now I don't recal if it was a Petro blend or an Alky blend. I'll look when I get home. It's a good book if you want to learn about the stovebolt Chev, and the GMC longmotor (the Buick straight 8 has about as much stuff in there as the Jimmy, the book is laid out as how to build a Chev, and then how the others differ). Not alot on the full pressure Chev's though, they were just out when the book was written.

There's another book out there (I have a copy of it too) about the same vintage. I can't remember the name right now, yellow cover and roughly the same size as the California Bill book. I don't remember if it has fuel recipies or not.

Probably keep it mild really 248 is the little guy.
Was going to put these manifolds on But sold them. to a HAMBer
over in Orlando for a hundred bucks. never heard from him again
not sure if he used them or just sold them for a quick buck.
Really would like to find the Aluminum Manifold for it.
And should have a spare engine around to build.
But I'm ready to sell it one day and working on it the next day.
    Mood swings

    Nice!

So, the manifolds take alignment rings like the Chev, does it take 4 (looks like there are recesses for them) or does the twin carb manifold take just two?

I was cleaning them up in the photo, think I was missing a few rings.
had some broke off studs and stuff i had to fix, Should have kept them.
But The kid said he really needed them so he could make the Daytona Show that year.
I'll bet he did not make the show unless Mike or Nads put the thing together
for him haha... I'm super slow so this is a few years back.

Hokay, I can't seem to find th page I remember in th Cali' Bill book with various blends, but on page 18 there is a graph plotting the power difference between a 232" full race Chev fed straight Alcohol V/S a blend of Alcohol, 20% Nitro-Methane and 10% tap water (175 HP V/S 192 HP at their respective peaks).

The other book I couldn't remember the name of is "How to Hop Up Chevrolet & GMC Engines" by Roger Huntington. It's being reprinted by the California Bill people. They are at http://californiabills.com/ . As the ***le suggests it has nothing to do with the big 8.

The only fuel recipe I've got is one developed by Honda and Elf France.
I'm guessing it was probably for Formula 1.

    84% Tolulene
    16% n-Heptane

    Tolulene is easy to get.
No idea where to get n-Heptane,or even what it is.

Smokey played with a lot of that stuff,
said it wasn't worth the health risks.

IIRC that particular blend was for the Honda Turbo F1 cars. It was blended to meet the octane limit for the fuel, while doing well under boost.

Smoky is right, it's evil nasty stuff. Or as one of the TRICK racing fuel distributors I met at a PRI show several years ago liked to say 'it's good for making three legged kids." He was refering to propylene oxide at the time.
