Technical Source for white running board rubber mat

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by K13, Jan 6, 2016.

  1. Does anyone know where one might find white fine ribbed running board rubber mat. I am looking for stuff like what was used on the Chuck Porter truck. The only thing I have been able to come up with so far is from companies that do floor mats and it seems like it would be too heavy for this application. I thought Restoration Supply Company had it but I don't see it there either. Any suggestions would be helpful.

  2. You may give Hanna Rubber in KC,MO a call. They ship rubber of all kinds all over the world and if anyone has access to white ribbed mat they would.

They are where I buy my ribbed mat for floors. I have only ever bought black from them but it is worth a shot.

Google them and get their number.

  3. Thanks beaner I will see what they say. Anyone else with any suggestions? There must be someone out there selling white running board rubber.

Just throwing ideas out there. What about commercial flooring or hallway runner or some such thing? Another thought is conveyor belt.

    Cast your own?
    Boat restoration supply?

  7. Thanks for the suggestions. I thought about casting my own just not exactly sure how one would go about it and I have looked into the boat restoration and they have white pyramid matting ( I guess it was used on Chris Craft boats) which I may use if I can't find the rubber stuff. I have also wondered it there is any way to paint or dye the black stuff you can get anywhere but haven't really been able to find anything that seems like it would be a do that. There are two guys up here in Canada that make custom running board mats for restorations and say they could do it with some caveats but they both would want big money to do it.

  8. K, try these guys...

Restoration Supply C. has a couple of running board cover materials in white, 800-306-7008, www.restorationStuff.com.

  10. Thanks guys. I will check them out Steve. I thought I had already looked at their site and didn't see it but after a while they all just seem to run together so thanks for pointing it out really well priced as well. I have looked at restoration supply and the ribbed stuff is unfortunately in a cream colour. They carry the pyramid in white as well but it is about double the price of what the boat guys are selling it for if I go that route.

  11. Still on the hunt for this if anyone else has any ideas. Canal has it but can't process Canadian Credit cards :confused:which makes it a bit of a pain to deal with them. If there are no other options I can send a money order to them but it's kind of a pain in the ass for two yards of vinyl and will take a while and I am going to be near the border in the next couple of weeks which will probably save me $100 in shipping as well.

Volkswagen aftermarket suppliers used to have white rubber for the VW bug running boards as well as white window seals. This was called the Cal (California) look. I think the "Cal Look" fad has passed but the rubber may still be available.

  13. Thanks fr the suggestion. I did find some VW stuff but it all seems to be molded for VW running boards which unfortunately doesn't do me much good.

See if SEM and Mar Hyde have a system and products for changing the color from cream matting to white.
You could refinish it after installing it on the boards for a perfect finish.

  15. I tried a SEM product on some black just to see how it would adhere and it was not very impressive even with an adhesion promoter it chipped off pretty easily. I see Restoration supply is back to saying they have white rather than cream but at $36 a foot compared to $23 a yard at Canal there is no chance I am buying from them just to avoid a money order.

  16. Frustrating being north of the border sometimes...
