I have a good set of stock wide five wheels that I want to have widened by an inch for my 1938 Ford 5 window build. Looking for a shop in the midwest. Thanks Pete
PETE...Look on You Tube, 'wheel widening', or 'Wheels widened'. I saw something a month ago or so, seems the older guy was in Midwest...
I widened a set. Do a search here on the hamb I did a tech thread on them. I think it was Wide five widening..
I widened a set of Wide 5 and the metal scared me silly. It is very thin, I didn't measure but guess it to be about .100 or so. After a lot of thought I spoke to the guy at Weld Craft ( there was another thread on here and thats where I got the name) and he said they make a special hoop just for the Wide 5, thicker metal and ok for radial tire sideloading. I've drilled out the rivets from the set I widened and am sending the centers to him.
For what its worth I made a set of wide five wheels for a roadster I was building . I used 16 inch wheels off a early 2000 chevy pickup . The wide five center works great in the 6.5 inch wide chevy wheel. I will try to Post a pic but it only works sometimes for me. Note I turned the wheel around to look reversed but you wouldn't have to do that.
