Much to my surprise, I found out Northwestern Auto Supply in Grand Rapids is no longer in business, while trying to hunt some NOS engine parts. Seems Sam the owner p***ed away a year + ago, and it is now permanently closed. Sadly this is now a trend of half the guys I knew with stashes of NOS parts. Other then the obvious professional stash of NOS parts ones, like Egge, who else is might one try now a days?
I have had pretty good luck with a place called; "Johnson Speed Shop" Lansing, Michigan, 517-321-6460. I know they sell some parts through eBay but I have no idea what other internet sites they use. I know of a few engine builders that source parts with them as well for some of the more unique and hard to find parts.
For a flathead Buda Engine as used in industrial equipment and some big trucks in the 1930's. I have the old Thompson and Sealed Power numbers
I don't recall the name of the business, but I remember a story about a place in Texas I believe, that had many warehouses full. The owner p***ed but last I heard, someone was bought it and was going to be continuing in the business. I think they closed for awhile because all the original inventory was in the owners head. The new owner wanted to try to begin to catalog things so they could properly serve their customers.
Ken, you could try the parts peddler. They have been around for a long time. I would probably try the Chelsea location. Dexter (734) 426-4688 Chelsea (734) 475-9106
That was Stacy's Antique Auto Supply in Arlington - he started going to dealerships in the late 60's out of high school for their NOS stuff and I even had to bid with him at a few auctions. Great guy and family run place - yes it was sold to one guy who later flipped it to someone up North. Got most of my NOS Flathead parts there. He was a pretty BIG FoMoCo guy but loved them all !
It's hit or miss, but surprising what you can find on the 'bay. Last winter while working on my Dodge flathead 230 I found a NOS set of .040 rings, in Dodge boxes. 040s are an on oversize and not readily available at a lot of places but I had a block that was bored and still usable. No sense in paying for remachining. These are real Mopar parts and cheap too. The message is, if you're not in a hurry for them, set up a daily search and be patient.
Agree - I work /buy those old 9N-2N-8N Ford tractors and if Dennis doesn't have it the bay usually has someone posting some NOS Engine parts.
