Great project! Before the 9'' gets cut (if it does), you might want to decide if you want the pinion or the housing housing centered in the car.

Just as a comment on this, my roadster has the housing centered because it is visible from behind the car, and it would look sorta strange, IMO, to be off center.
But on all the drag cars I've thought to look at, the pinion is centered.

Dirty Old Man - the 9'' in my Chevy is centered, the pinion is offset. This is because of the reason you stated, and because the big web housing & ladder bar brackets lined up best that way.

That makes sense with an aftermarket housing with a wide web center.

  13. From what I've been told and recommended....it is center the pinion. You want a straight drive line.

The fewest angles is best, agreed.

I was told the pumpkin was offset on stock ford trucks to keep the right and left axle the same length ... Therefore each has the same amount of stress...

Could be myth ...but it makes a lot of sense to me...

I'm not exactly how the twisting motion and weight displacement of a launch would change that theory though

  18. You and me both brother.

Cool score Tim, can't wait to see how this one turns out. It's in very good hands.
